WoW shock

So I logged into my World of Warcraft account page and totaled the amount I've spent subscribing to wow since 2005 as shown in my transaction history which came to $959.30. Before taxes the base game the three expansions (no collectors editions) came out to ~$170.

$1129.3 for one game. Consdering I've taken periodic breaks and didn't buy any of the fluff from the Wow store, I'm sure there are some that have played since release with a much larger number. Extraordinary.

Just thought I would share. I think we can all see why so many developers are trying to have success in the MMO market.

There is no way to show account time played, only character. Since I started playing I've deleted tons of characters (high and low) and started over numerous times so I've got no way to really gauge total playing time. Maybe someone can tell me a way to do it.

Compare that to your cable bill though, and it's cheap. I was paying that much every year for cable (vs. your 6-7 years of WoW) until I canceled last spring.

I know that I've got over 1.5 years played so even $1300 isn't that bad for that much. Although, my amount may be higher since I've paid for up to 3 accounts at once (two right now), and I buy the collector's editions.

I'm debating whether or not to cancel my Mists of Pandaria preorder. I want to try it out a bit, but I kinda enjoy some of this "newfound" gaming freedom.

This. But not only that, total up how much you spend on soft drinks a month and WoW is nothing for the entertainment value.

im at about the same.but considering the hours i have its a very cheap form of entertainment.

Amazing to me that people are willing to play the same 5 dungeons over and over again for years on end and find it fun... You shape the gaming landscape by supporting such "gameplay."

now divide that $ by /played and see what it looks like $ / hour

Yeah, but here's the thing. Entertainment is supposed to be a brief escape, like a vacation, that lets you get back to your real life refreshed and with a fresh perspective.

WOW instead drains you and makes you dull.

No kidding. I spent $60 i think for Bad Company 2 and played for 1500 hours. Now that's a deal but not as good as Americas Army 2, which was free to download and free to play...2500 hours.

About $762 for me. Mine was since 2006. I took multiple breaks. Its not too bad considering just home internet alone is $50 a month and I spend $300-500 in a weekend in Vegas lol.

For the 3 years I played Age of Conan, I actually saved more money than the years I wasn't playing it. $15 a month vs. spending money on new games all the time.

Or other things that you could go do. It definitely was a money saver for me, but I prefer to have balance.

I probably spent $150 or so on subscription and maybe $70 for the games (got the initial as gift and first expansion free), but I got like 2500+ hours out of it.

I'm tempted to try the expansion but I can't see them adding more awesome content that will keep me entertained for more than a month or 2. Wrath was the best expansion and added content. I think that's where they peaked.

Lets just wait and watch. Blizzard is going to put everything into MOP considering how poorly D3 faired. If this doesn't hit the mark, we might just witness the fall of one of the mighty giants in gaming.

Well, the interesting thing is how MoP seems to be focusing a bit more on adding extra content that's for anyone. I mean... if you ever wanted to play Harvest Moon or Pokemon while playing World of Warcraft... now you can! 😀

I don't know what you were expecting. Something cheaper? Wow is 15 bucks a month, you knew what you were getting into.

If only they made most pets hard to obtain, some unique AND in a duel winner gets 1 pet of the loser, then this would be the most badass idea ever... except for all the little kids crying.

WOW is dull, though. There isn't much variety.

This is a very pointless post.

Stating an opinion as fact is always pointless. Someone can find X entertainment fun, while Y thinks it is dull. It doesn't matter what entertainment you place into the sentence, it will always be true.

And to your previous post, it is a brief escape. No one said they had to play 24/7 to enjoy it, some do, some just play a bit and leave it at that. Playing 1 hour a day is brief. That becomes 7 hours a week. Which becomes 30hrs a month.

Which becomes $0.50 / hr.

A movie ticket w/o popcorn and soda = About $12 at prime time now. (For what 2 hour movies) = $6.00 / hr.

It's also your opinion that WoW is entertaining. Many people find it supremely boring.

Many people also find it extremely entertaining seeing as it is the most popular MMO in the world by far.

I find cable TV boring and refuse to watch it so whatever floats your boat eh?
