Hey here's another hot deal, if you go to the soup kitchen on tuesdays you can get an extra piece of bread! WOW HOT DEAL! Maybe if you spent less money on anime porn and Real Dolls you could buy some decent clothes and save the invetory for people who actually need the savings. You know, disadvantaged folks? Besides, last time I went in there to donate stuff I scanned through the rack of t-shirts. Most of them had to do with Nascar or had unidentifiable stains that were probably affiliated with Al Queda. Nothing wrong with buying used clothes. Case in point... While driving around Bellevue, WA, I saw a sweet Ferrari 456 GT/GTA driving around and wanted to check it out. I saw the guy park at a store so I pulled in and drove by a couple of times to admire it. Anyway, turns out the place was a SA-type store. Hey, got to make a few sacrifices to own a vehicle like that!

I've been a fan of salvation army for a few years now. Clothes are clothes.
And anyone that has a complaint about them being gross needs to realize that they are sterilized before they are put on shelves.

last time i went there, my friend (guy) got a shirt that said "Got Union?" on the front and on the back it said, "Proud to be a UAW Woman" (UAW=United Auto Workers)

You guys got it wrong.The money they make selling the clothes and stuff goes to the poor.So the more you buy the more you are giving to the poor.Buy as much as you want and don't feel guilty.
First of all, for those of you worried about taking clothes from the needy that is far from truth. There is more than enough clothes to go around, so much they sell bundles of clothes to 3rd world countries. And S.A. will be more than happy to take your money.
As for myself, I'm not going to lie, I tried the S.A. but found it to be very smelly. And I spent a lot of time trying to find the right size, style and don't forget about quality that I wear. With a little patients you can wait for sales in retail store and get new clothing at a pretty good deal.
So for those of you that have the time or don't care about style this is a hot deal!!!

You're right. People with little money dont need those clothes, neither do the poor people that don't quite qualify. That's why there are 5 on 5th Ave in NYC. How stupid are these anandtech users? I mean... they don't realize that these clothes are for us... not low income people.
I'm not saying you shouldn't shop there, my friend actually got a tape drive with 2 100 meg tapes for $2... cheap storage and people that NEED to shop for clothes there probably don't NEED a computer backup. But just don't go through there and keep things away from people that NEED it.

There are consignment shops in Palm Beach near where I live. Most of the people wear something once and flip it for some cash....most of the stuff goes for less than 50%. A lot of estate stuff also when someone dies. Same with furniture....some $50,000 leather couch for $5,000 in like new shape was one of the things I wanted to get, but the color was the wrong shade for my house at the time.

Agreed this exactly isn't a hot deal. I mean, Salvation Army does use the money they get from clothes to profit the poor.. but I think the prices are low so the less fortunate can grab some warm clothing.
Then again, I spend a couple thousand on clothes every year.. so what do I know?!?

My friends and I used to go there while in college... we needed clothes for a ceramic engineering lab called "mud lab"... and we had fun in mud lab. Disposable clothes were a must!
While shopping at the S.A. store, we also picked up a pool table for $10. (it was in great shape until an unfortunate incident during drunken tag team wrestling)
If you've never been to a salvation army store, stop in, even if just for kicks.
btw, why would the aforementioned "poor people for whom the store is intended" need a tuxedo? My roommate picked up an excellent tux for $5.

my sisters fiance once got a pretty nice (considering it was used) leather couch from a SA for like 50 bucks or somethin, needed one for the place he was renting during college
