I just bought a "One day in the life of Ivan Desonivich" for $3.00 from amazon. Shipping was 3.50..im thinking i should have just made the drive to borders in san antonio. wow...

How do they get away with this? i know computer parts are just as ridiculous in terms of shipping. Oh well, i guess its what i get for being lazy.

Ha! it certainly can.
Not to mention border tax on parcels. That's a big oomff to the wallet as well.
Last parcel I payed for was a box of baby clothes sent to me (thankyou, relatives) was about 40$ canadian, cause they didn't pay the tax. So I ended up paying for most of the stuff in the parcel!:p

Shipping and handling really sucks to Hawaii, since most stuff is 2 days, maybe 3, UPS or sometimes FedEx

You can't get ground service in Hawaii? ;)

speakin of hawaii..ive got a nice lil story here.

i was with a friend in Cali, and we saw a car's license plate that said hawaii. so he asked, "hawaii...damn, wonder how long it took them to drive here." i looked at him, to see if he was joking. face as straight as ever. then i say, "and just how did they get here?" and he says, "probably bering straight"

Darein, I hear you about Hawaii. No free shipping, a lot of places won't ship at all, many freaks who claim **USPS** costs more to ship to Hawaii, and then my favorite: idiots who don't realize Hawaii id part of the US and want to charge "international" shipping.
:disgust:

Muffin, you must spend most of your time in the hot deals forum where it is normal to be a big meanie.

Muffin's actually right on target. I just got a DVD from someone that sent it only using one 34 cent stamp. Said that it'd worked w/ other ppl fine before. Didn't make any sense to me. Even got me some neutral HW for the trouble of complaining because I had to pay $1.05 at the PO in order to get the DVD. Go figure.

Muffin-
I originally left a neutral HW for him. I even explained it in the HW, so ppl would know what was up. I think his neutral was in retaliation. Or maybe it was because I misspelled his name when I left HW.

I thought it was lame, too. But hey- I don't care. He's on my do-not-trade list now, so it doesn't matter.

LOL here's an extreme example of shipping overkill. KD Computers is selling 4 screws for a case fan for a whole 15 cents. Sounds reasonable until you factor in UPS ground shipping which to my location is $6.53.

That's a 4300% premium on the original purchase price! :Q

Granted, if you're bundling this with other purchases from the same company, this effect will be minimized, but there you go. :D
