Anyone having problems with this setup? My sound is messed up when I play mp3 files. It gets choppy at random intervals. I had this problem with the onboard sound as well as with my sb live value card, which worked fine in my last computer. I have upgraded to the latest bios... mia1101b. I am using windows xp by the way.

any help is appreciated

If any of you are worried about the idle temp, it's normal for an AMD761 board. This is a very stable chipset. The AMD chipset disables the hardware idle function on the CPU. You will have to run a cooling program in order to idle the board. They did this because the voltage swings on the faster CPUs when going from idle to full load could crash a system in certain instances. Also if you wan't to know the proper way to install a heatsink go here. Arctic Silver Instructions - You can use these instructions even if you aren't using Arctic Silver.

btw, i just noticed that the amd xp1700+ that's shipped from tcwo.com has the new green packaging (doesn't really mean much, except to signify that it's recently fabricated).

the vcool program that several people have linked to supposedly has only limited support for the amd 761 chipset. have people successfully used this software specifically with the biostar motherboard? if not, are there other cpu idling programs that people recommend?

For those of you who are still looking for a case for this system, the Evercase E4252WEFA from Newegg is perfect for this motherboard combo. I'm in the middle of putting together my system right now, and just love the Evercase. The case comes with a header for two front usb ports. All you have to do is plug in the included cables into the front usb connectors on the Biostar mobo. Also, the side case fan sits almost directly above the cpu/heatsink/fan, which should help keep temperatures down.

well, i got everything set up last night and it all works great! the only problem is that i need to find a quieter heatsink fan (the coolermaster is LOUD). any suggestions? btw, it looks like the xp1700+ that i got from tcwo is actually an MP! 🙂 too bad the biostar mobo doesn't let you adjust the multiplier. 🙁

i'm getting 66c just surfing web.. (7volt mod also) .. when the fan is running at 12v.. i get 61c..

i'm guessin the sensor is reading weird?.. but this number should be LESS than the ACTUAL temp close to the die...

i'm worried 😛
