I've never created a guild so I was wondering if it is possible to have multiple guild masters for a guild. Or lets say you create a rank called General. Can the guild master make himself a general and still have guild master access?

You can give ranks the same privilages as a guild master such as invite/remove members, officer chat access, etc, but only ONE guild master has the power to disband the guild.

pretty much.
You can assign all possible gm type stuff to other people i think, except the disbanding and the assigning of gm's.
