I have three days in when I typed /played. I'm level 27 and have 7 gold so far.. am I going at a decent pace ?

The worse thing you could do to kill the fun is try to keep up with someone or something. Just play and have fun, the journey is more important than the destination. The high end is always less fun in these type games.
BTW I'm level 8 in WoW, but I've been high level in raiding guilds in EQ, it's not any more fun and is just more pressure.

Are you buying each and ever skill/spell when you level? I haven't bothered with the ones I won't use, it has saved me some serious coin. I figure when I'm 60 and money's easier to come by I'll go back and get them.
