WOW: PvE or PvP server?

I'm a level 34 mage right now on Bleeding Hollow, a PVP server. I like PvP and all, but I can't go more than 10 minutes without level 70 horde ganking me. I'd like to get to 60 sometime this century. I was thinking of transferring my character over to a PvE server for this reason. I'm into PvP, but it sucks being ganked by people double your level so often. Do you guys find the battlegrounds to be enough for PVP?

On a PVE server you can still harass the oposing faction, just head to one of their cities and wait lol

If you flag pvp you wont have to wait long.

I liked pve better.

I prefer PVE. If I want PVP, battlegrounds provide more than enough for me.

I prefer my questing without having to worry about someone killing me if I'm in a contested zone.

I played on a PVE server. It was nice. I thought about switching to a PVP one and someone told me it's not worth the grief. Basically crap like that happens a lot on PVP servers. Who needs it. On a PvE server you can run through zone controlled by the opposing faction without having to worry about bored high levelers ganking you.

If I wanted to PVP, I'd do it in the Arenas. Unless you really like the idea of randomly fighting other players, I'd go for a PVE server.

for all the "pains" of a pvp server, i'd never switch voluntarily to a pve server. i have fun on the pvp server.

Do you want to be a care bear?

You'd have to be a pretty big nerd to actually care about such trivial things.

I will say this, once I hit 60 on PvE server, I sorta wished I was on a PvP server just to keep things interesting.

I paid $250 to switch 10 characters from a PVP server to a PVE server... leaving all of my friends and never being able to go back again. Was it worth it? Hell yes, every fricken penny. It may be more worthwhile to me as all I do now is level characters (Shaman's at 58.6 with 7 days 2 hours, looking to get 60 at 7 days 10 hours or so!) and as you've mentioned, you can't go far without Orctar the 70 Orc Warrior from the guild "My Little Pwnies" to come and gank you many times (note that names/guilds were made up and if there is an Orctar in "My Little Pwnies"... I'm a good guesser).

Personally, I preferred PVP'ing in a battleground even when I was on Lightning's Blade. I may've been good at PVP, but when I'm out in the world to farm.. I'd rather just farm and not waste my time with Orctar.

So, in short, yes, I'd switch.

Do you want to have others dictate how you play the game?

Frankly I don't understand why they allow ANY PvP outside of arenas on non-PvP servers.

The one nice thing about having it though is that the idiots are quick to let you know who they are

Why should PVE servers be limited to arenas only? I don't see how this makes sense at all. That's like saying a PVP server should have very little PVE in it, because the focus should be PVP. Unless you're complaining about the ability to flag yourself for PVP on a PVE server, which I think adds for a bit more control over exactly what you want to do.

Personally, I like not having to watch my back anymore... I've been doing it for over 2 years and it's quite comforting having to only worry about the mob in front of me instead of also worrying about the rogue behind me :p.

Oh and to the care bear comment... don't mess with the care bear stare! :p

PvP is the best, you can kill the other faction that is screwing with your quest NPCs easily because people of your own faction will not be afraid to turn on their PvP tags, no one can form a character on the opposing faction (economy is better), grief the farmers, and best of all it is more exciting and challenging. But, I play on a PvE server because that is where my "real-life" friends are.

The only downsides are ganking (lvl 70s spawn camping your lvl 20) and the community on PvP servers is horrible compared to PvE and RP servers, seems like they are full of kids.

I started WoW on a regular PVP server (Magtheridon) and then moved to an RPPVP server (Twisting Nether) after my "real life" friends went there. The RPPVP server is much better than the regular because the players are sooooo much better. Sure, you're gonna get ganked every now and then but if I'm questing I always get ganked once and then they'll leave me alone. I play horde and we do the same to the alliance. I've never been spawn camped like I was on Magtheridon. Also, nobody RPs. People think it's a bunch of geeks talking in old english or something on RP servers but that just isn't the case (at least on the one I play on).

I agree that PvP servers are more fun and challenging. And hey when you reach 70 you'll have the pleasure of randomly ganking people as well :p

Unless you're one of those people that doesn't want to do any pvp until they hit 70 and get completely decked out in raid gear, it's worth getting ganked occasionally for all the world pvp you get to do. If not, you'll fit right in on the care bear servers. I strongly encourage you to grow a pair, and then enjoy all the revenge you get to inflict once your characters are levelled up.

If you think it's bad now, wait 6 months when everyone and their mother is up to 70. It was worse before BC because all the level 60s who didn't join elite guilds were really bored since it was impossible to get a pick up raid into MC or BWL. At least right now you have a large surge of people levelling their alts with the new races/classes.

PvP sucks while leveling, but it can be a lot of fun once you're maxed out level-wise. Since I don't have a lot of contiguous time to play, PvP is a lot of fun for me, especially world PvP as it is more random. I love AB, but it has gotten so predictiable as to where people will go that I can rack up a good score almost every time even though I have mediocre gear.

Personally, I'm glad I rolled on a PvP server.

Stormscale - PVP. Hybrid warrior, overpowered (maybe skills have something to do with it).

Because obviously PVP servers are where all the men hang out... You know, those most masculine of people who have big enough balls to camp/harass me using their epic mounts when I'm level 30.

It's not any more 'manly' to play on a server where fights like this, where you have LITERALLY no chance at survival or escape, happen.

I'm 60 now, and I do look forward to 'revenge'... but then again, that makes me no better than them, no? I may take over a low-level horde town now and again, I'm sure, when the time comes.

Some people on here claim that getting ganked "occasionally" on pvp servers is worth it to be able to world pvp. I wish it only happened occasionally, but its more like rampant ganking on most servers. I really enjoyed random pvp encounters with people around my level that I have a chance against, but the number of times I have been ganked far outweighed the times I had a fun random encounter. The thing is, on a pvp server most people will only attack you if they have an advantage, if you're pretty close they'll wait till you're fighting a mob or something. If you're max level it may be more fun, but it was too frustrating for me trying to get up that high.

Im playing on a pve server now and its much more fun for leveling, and BGs are keeping me pretty happy with pvp. Even though my favorite thing to do in WoW is pvp, I enjoy it more when its relatively fair as opposed to ridiculously 1 sided. If ganking by higher levels wasn't so frequent I would play a pvp server, but as it is now I would rather do pve.

I'd just be careful while questing/grinding my way through PvP and not pay to transfer.

I'm sure the Spartans grew up in perfectly groomed environment until they're ready for PVP, then transfered.

If you wait, you won't gain any valuable PVP skills. Part of PVP is to know how your opponents classes are played, battleground is not really a place to learn those individually.
