I never understood why someone would buy a PS3 and play PS2 games on it. Everyone I know who has a PS3 still has a PS2 and plays a small amount of games on it

It upscales the games. Plus, I never had a PS2 prior to owning my launch PS3 unit (died last week).

the guy at gamestop tried telling me they are STILL losing money on those new models

They don't know any more about Sony's cost than you or I.

FYI - Sony said they were making a bit of a profit off of the PS3 last June.

"We aren't making huge money from hardware, but we aren't bleeding like we used to." - Sony's Yoshida to IGN.

Presumably, they are making a little more of a profit six months later.

I don't have any actual evidence about this, but I would hazard a guess that the skill of Xbox 360 players (in shooters) is higher on average than PS3 players in the same game.

I had to triple check to make sure I was in the thread I thought I was. Where did this come from? What does this have to do with anything being talked about? Are you just trying to start something?

Remember also, that there is a paid version of the PSN now.

Which is entirely optional and not required at all for simple things like Netflix or Hulu or anything like that.

What does this have to do with anything in this thread?

Also...it has HDD, networking support, nice wireless controllers, and a simple HDMI connection. It's much nicer to play PS2 games on a PS3 w/ full backward compatibility.

Keep an eye out for the deals where a retailer will sell the PS3 160GB (bundled with a couple games) with a $50-100 store gift card.

There's one at Best Buy with $50 GC right now: http://www.logicbuy.com/deals/ps3-slim-160gb-console/25495.aspx

I jumped on a Wal-Mart deal near Christmas with a $100 GC and sold the GC on Craig's List for $85.

Why the hell would you give up $15 on a Walmart gift card? How hard is it to spend a Walmart gift card?
