Wow. Pics of Soviet Moon Rocket!

<< the russian space program is lame, look at that piece of junk mir what a waste of time and money. >>

It may be 'lame' now, but in the 60's they put up a good fight and would have won the space race if not for the US getting to the moon.

Well they did beat us into space but we beat them to the moon only because we had more people working on it than they did. Not to mention an unlimited supply of money that came from the taxpayers. The only thing that makes me sad that with all of that momemtum that we had rolling along to pull the plug and money on NASA we went backwards real fast. The chalange was met that JFK gave us after Sputnick was launched and then they had the First man in space and then it was now what? We need to go to Mars! I'm up for that!

that's a pretty intersting site.....we need to do something, earth is dying and we've got to either have somewhere to go or die with it

<< Wow, that thing looks humongous. >>

It is and it is a typical former USSR engineering philosophy-- substitute size/quanity for quality.

Hello!!! Mir was a grand success. Yes, it did have problems, but it was originally meant to be in space for only 7 years and lasted 15. It was also the real pioneer for space stations, ever wonder why the ISS is designed so much like it? (Different modules that are assembled in space, not like earlier stations, IE Skylab)

VIDS!!!

I saw an explosion of one of the N-1 rockets on a documentary. I'll search around online to see if I can find a video of sorts.

It's 2002...how about some color pics

Yes, so we can find out it's as interesting as the moon at 2000x the cost (to the taxpayers)...YEAH!!!!

Let's look at the facts shall we? Russians had the first satellite in space, first living creature in space, first man in space, first woman in space, first spacewalk, first spacestation, longest lasting spacestation, longest time people have lived in space, first man-made object on lunar surface (I'm not 100% sure about that though)... Yep, their space-program sure is lame...

They sure don't make them like they used to. I wonder if we could put a man on the moon again?
Russians seem to be more into many smaller engines as opposed to few large engines. I think soyuz has something like 20 engines.
Then again, soyuz has been in service since the 1963, and it's still a workhorse into this century. Very cost effective. It's like the AK47 of space launchers.

Do they have color photography yet in Russia?
Ever been to a former communist city, they appear to be about 40 years behind in technology.

40? more like 5-10.

Colour photography has been there since at least the 70s
