Now do all that with a camera that can fit in my pocket and we'd have something worth wild.

HOLY! Wow, I may have to become a Pentax convert. Wish it was something like 12MP though. 8 to 10MP isn't that much of a quality difference.

If it has good high ISO performance and fast shooting speeds with a large buffer, I'm sold.

And the K100D is falling in price, too. It can be had for as little as $600 last time I checked.

The D80 is tempting though.

The weather resistant body sounds pretty nifty. Wonder how much truth in advertising that is. That "low profile" prime lens was intriguing too.

Pics please of foaming mouth...No macro shots :D

I don't think I'll be in ANY condition to take pictures ;P

Looking at the specs...

1. 12 RAW frames @ 3 FPS. Woot!
2. Weathersealed. OMG finally. This is actually a huge selling point for me.
3. Dust-shake sensor thingy. Yay! No more carrying around a blower that takes up space that can be used for a lens!
4. Nice viewfinder. Loads better than the Rebel, but can't touch full frame goodness. Ehhh...
5. 1.5x crop factor. GREAT for people like me who can always use more reach. Makes the somewhat dim and small viewfinder worth it.
6. Buttons. Scroll wheel thingy! Yay!!!
7. In-body IS. OMFG.
8. SD card storage. Ehhh.... but I would get used to it. (I have 8GB in CF cards).
9. Optional Battery Grip. YES! IMO, an SLR is not an SLR without a battery grip.

So far this thing completely nukes everything Canon and Nikon has in the price range. Key words? So far. I'm interested to see how Canon and Nikon respond ;)

I don't think they can respond much. They're new offerings have already been announced. Rebel xti and D80 along with their features.

It's tricky. Most SLR users use Canon and Nikon already, so to get a large number of them to convert to Pentax will require quite a feat, a feat that can be easily defeated if the next offerings past the XTi and D80 have a lot of the same features as the Pentax.

To make things clearer, the decision would be whether to go Pentax now, and get hit buying new lenses in Pentax mount, or wait a while to see if Canon or Nikon offer something competitive in the next-next generation. If they do, it may be better for current Canon and Nikon users to ignore Pentax altogether and just wait a bit longer for something competitive.

Not to mention there isn't much of a market for used Pentax lenses, and since 100% of my lenses were bought used to save a boat load of money, not having a used lens market for Pentax would be a HUGE downer. I guess someone would just have to create a Buy/Sell forum for Pentax mount ;)

Either way, in-camera IS, weathersealing, and dust-shake sensor all in one economically priced unit is AMAZING. Makes me think Pentax might be selling these at a loss or with extremely thin margins in an attempt to break into the market.

fuzzy, I thought the mounts could be changed on Sigma lenses. Is this not so?

I don't mean addapters but the anodized aluminum bit changed out.

dasm!

it's like pentax said, lets take the xti, fix the ergonomic issues, add some extra high-zoot features, and sell it for the same price

D80, xti, and alpha look utterly pointless unless you've already bought into a system.

If I wasn't heavily invested in Nikon lenses and other accessories, this would be tempting.

I don't believe so. This may have been so with older Sigmas, or older Tamrons with their Adaptall mounts, but not so with current Sigmas or Tamrons. I could be wrong though.

It's a shame :(

Not much of a used market? What about every Pentax lens ever made? Never mind the fact that you can't even find a deal on a used Canon or Nikon lens. I've seen used lenses go for more on ebay than they cost new at some place like sigma4less.com.

When is the last time you've seen a huge market for used Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina lenses in Pentax mount? When's the last time you've seen a huge market for used, current Pentax lenses? Sure, there's every Pentax lens ever made, but way too many of them use really old and outdated technology. They're great for getting sharpness on the cheap, but for people who are used to things like USM, HSM, or even autofocus for that matter, they're unacceptable.

If you can't find a good deal on used lenses, you're not looking hard enough. I'm not talking about eBay, because you'll always get the deal-ruiner who bids higher than retail, I'm talking about forums.

If I sold all my lenses right now I'd break even at least. I have more than a fair chance of getting more than I paid for them.

Ditto here with Canon. Though, I'm curious as to how IQ will stack up against the Canon/Nikon competition. Usually, they're the undisputed best two, with heated debate that goes both ways for the crown. All those features don't mean squat if there's high noise or inaccurate colors, or some sort of distortion.
