Playing WoW with a gamepad would be like naming your character

"Please kick my ass in PVP".

Even in some PVE portions, playing with a gamepad would simply be counter-productive.

I don't see this happening, not through technical limitations, but because it isn't needed.

I wonder how the results from the poll would differ if the "Would you play an MMO on a console?" question were changed to "Would you choose to play an MMO on a console if it were also available on PC and did not require an extremely powerful machine?"

I believe more No's would exist.

I know a bunch of people that plat FFXI on a PS2 still. Some people aren't PC gamers.

Fair enough, but how many of them are choosing to play it on a PS2 because it was once exclusive to that console and they bought it before the game got ported to other consoles or the PC?

The game was out on PC first, then PS2 and much later 360...

Playing any MMO on a controller I feel robs you of a lot of user friendliness. It will never be quite as easy. Even my friend who plays FF XI on the PS2 uses a USB keyboard to do so.

Hmmm looks like you are correct. It was originally scheduled to release simultaneously on the PS2 and PC but it looks like the PS2 version got delayed but only by a little bit.

You're right. Adding a mouse and KB is easy. However, convincing the market to buy a separate mouse and KB for one console game when they could just buy the game for the PC is harder in the case of most MMOs. Again, it boils down to the dollars. There are not enough dollars to port an already successful PC exclusive MMO such as WoW to a console. A new MMO which has yet to be released might be a different story though. I am not sure if the numbers are favorable in that scenario or not. Not to mention that releasing on a console adds a "middle man" when it comes to the networking aspects which can complicate things.
