Found this over at the supraforums... from what I've read from various forums, it should be named the 4500GT since Maserati should have a car named the 4000GT debuting soon.

The car in the back is suppose to be the replacement for the AE45 (huh?) or the old Corolla GTS RWD hatchbacks. There's a possibility that it could be introduced in the US as the MKV Supra.

Then someone also mentioned the actual Supra replacement (since the 4500gt will be way over the RX-7 and Z price range) will be based off the Lexus IS 2004-05 model, with either a 270-80 inline six or inline six with VVTL-i producing 300 to 315 horsepower (chasing the M3!).

I never really followed the Supra all that much, so the talk about the NA, Turbo and MKV and MKIV lines got me a little confused. All I know is, the last Supra was one hell of a car... and it's about time Toyota gave us the good old Supra loving again...

Man you serious? Heheheh, I think I'd take the 4500gt or the Supra in back over the girl ANYDAY... wish there were some rear shots, dunno if they have those trademark lights still since they obviously lost the F40 style wing (both were trademarks in my eyes)...

edit: by the way, the Supra in the background, looks a lot like the Focus in the front...

Man I just saw the R&T article on the RX-8, man is that a tight car. I was never a really big Supra fan, but that does look pretty cool in a futuristic sorta way. I really want an RX-8 though...suicide doors! Click on the RX-8 pic

Of course I'm not serious. I don't like the Supra in back as much as the one in front.. just reminds me of a Mustang. The front one is real nice though. And anyways, the car would probably let me meet a few girls. :)

You mean the March issue with the Subaru WRX Turbo on the cover? I have it somewhere on my desk, didn't get a chance to flip through it yet thought, don't remember any mention of that article on the cover.

The new Road and Track has articles about the Mazda RX-8, Nissan Z, and the Mitsubishi RPM 7000. Are you talking about that?

I guess the SUV craze is dying down again, and sports cars are picking up steam again... another cycle complete.

edit: Wah, main car in front is the 4500gt...

I'm talking about the R&T. Actually, the new trend is supposed to be rally-like cars like the RPM 7000 & the Toyota RSC. I think the Mitsu is fugly, but DAMN, gimme one of those RSC's!!!

I agree that the RPM 7000 is one fugly car. The RX-8 and the new Z look gorgeous though.

I see... but I think the sports car/sporty sedan sector should be in for a quick cycle before those crossbreeds take over. S2000 is firmly in place, the new Z is about to debut, Impreza WRX is out I think, new RSX, the Ford SVT Focus, Jaguar X-Type, Dodge Viper and the like are quite popular. The RX-8 is much closer to production than any of the crossbreeds.

What we need is for one of the companies to not hold back, release that Toyota RSC as is and show the world it'll sell (I hope). I hate it when all those concepts get reduced to nothing by the time they make it to market.

I agree with you totally, dc. I'm really happy with the way the car market seems to be heading in the future. I hope Toyota sees the success of many concept cars that have made it to production almost unscathed such as the Prowler, PT Cruiser, and even their own Celica and decides to release the RSC as-is (I can understand some interior-toning down though).

Oh yeah, 8 days till the WRX is released...I'm going to take it for a test drive then, but from the pics, I don't like the way it looks, which really pisses me off, because the price and performance is exactly what I'm looking for. :|

gunf1ghter, what's a Mitsubishi? The RPM 7000 is a Mitusbishi, RSC, the 4500gt, the Supra are all Toyota, and the rest are their respective companies...

Werk hehehe dude, don't get me started on the Impreza, I blew a gasket when I found out that it was official (those damn headlights). I followed it all summer, hoping it was a fake rendering that Subaru was circulating to cover up the unreleased Impreza. Then I heard that they might change it for the state side release... alas, none was true.

Have you seen the SWRT Impreza rally car? (think that's the name) They modified the lights to get rid of that bug eye crap. The damn car aside from the lights and the slower performance as compared to last years model (but much improved handling) is a great value for the price...

I don't think I've seen the SWRT. Man, last year I was all over car-importing sites trying to find a 99 or 00 WRX to import. I stopped when I heard they were releasing it in the states. Then I saw it, and got really pissed. I'm hoping it'll look better in person. Otherwise, I'll probably be getting an MR2 Spyder + a small turbo kit. :)

Check it out, obvious mod, and not that much of an improvement, but totally makes the car more agressive looking...

You were going to go through all the trouble to import the Impreza, why not the Skyline GT-R (knees get weak thinking about that beast)... I think you would have an easy time since there's the import company that imports them and mods them for you according to regulation.

edit: spelling errors again...

I'm confused...I thought this 4500GT was a replacement for MITSUBISHI'S 3000GT. Who really makes this 4500GT? Also, it looks to me like the Toyota car (pictured on that Japanese magazine cover) takes styling cues from the current Celica--I just hope the backend isn't fugly too!

dc, aren't gtr's like $80,000? I was mostly curious as to how much it would cost for a WRX to come over. I actually ran across a few already here in the states in Miami & LA. The one in Miami was sold, and LA is too far...I don't have time for a CC drive.

Hmmm yeah, in the U.S... but over in Japan, I heard they were only around $40k. Still not cheap, but damn, if I was going to go through all the trouble of importing a car, I'd take the extra step and try to get the money together for that best.

Toyota had a sports car way back when called the 2000gt, they then had the Supra which I think was supposedly the 3000gt, and then now, they are releasing the 4000gt, but because the name will be taken soon, they had to change it to the 4500gt.

Mitsubishi 3000GT = GTO (In japan)

That's why Toyota's 3000GT had no confusion probs in Japan ;)

Everyone go out and grab Grand Turismo... hehehe, you learn a lot from playing that game. Driving mechanics, names of the cars in other countries, cars that are not released in the states. Damn, very educational game.

YEAH!!! bout dang time Toyota, how i've waited for the day the Supra returns!!!! i knew they'd have to bring it back eventually, woo hoo!!!

yeah to verify: Supra in Japan = 3000 GT
MR2 in Japan = 2000 GT
then there was this hatchback like car, kinda like the 1980's toyota series called the 1500 GT , prolly the equivalent to the celica/supra series here before they seperated and became 2 different cars...
