what's a new one cost? $500? $600? I don't know much about the bulbs.

At least it's covered, Last I heard bulbs were more than that but I haven't been paying attention to those for about a year or more.

They are pretty easy to change, took about 15 min to chnage the bulb on our grand wega.

There's always a defective one in every batch.

That's why they every company has a success rating for every product.

I bought a five year warranty on my bulb. Only costed me $80.

Actually, from reading over at AVS, seems that the Toshibas are notorious for quick dying bulbs....

That sucks then. My Samsung is 6 months now. Still bright as hell and great contrast.

This is actually one of the things that makes me hesitate to buy a projection TV. Paying $2500 for a TV is one thing but having to shell out $300-$400 for a replacement bulb after the warranty expires would be painful.

The firefly lifespan of the bulb, the main reason why I haven't put down $$ for a samsung DLP yet.

It's insane that bulbs cost that much (1/4 - 1/6 of the TV!) and you have to replace them ever so often. Plasma > DLP :D

Actually, i just figured it out...

I watch an average of 4 hours of TV a day (erring on the VERY HIGH side - its prolly closer to 2). That means over 90 days, i used the bulb for 360 hours. A bulb that is rated for 3000-4000 hours. Thats just sick.

Unfortunately, all the good plama's in the 46"-50" range were 2x the price of what i paid for this DLP.... The toshiba has a BEAUTIFUL picture (when the bulb works)

One of my TV's is still going strong after 20 years.

Those picture tubes last forever. We have 2 tvs which are 20 years old at home. One 25" Goldstar which is in my parents bedroom and one 13" Sony which happens to be sitting in the closet ATM. Both still work fine though.
