Hello...I'm glad I'm still alive to write this. I'm in the process of building a whole new rig and have been ordering pieces as at a time. Tuesday I got my case ( Skyhawk Mini-server tower ), my PSU ( Antec TrueBlue480 ), and my Nexus Fan Speed Controller. ( which rules )

Today I got the 4 fans that I ordered, 1 for the HeatSink, 1 for the rear, and 2 for the intake. Well I got 4....yes 4 of the Sunon 80mm 84.1 cfm fans...I figured "Hey, I could never have too much power." ( not to mention the case has 2 side fans which are low powered blue led fans ).

Anyway.....I'm always hearing how loud these are, so I decide to plug two into my computer and hold them in my hands.......... PowerUP.....and VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM the friggin fans moved in my hand....and made the noise of an apache helicopter. As I'm trying to hold myself back from spinning in a circle and keeping the papers on my desk, I decide to take a closer look at one of them...........SSSSSSLICCCCCEEEE.....my thumb accidentally gets too close to the other one and SQUIRT.....out pooooors the blood. PowerOFF.........and off to grab some tissues to stop the bleeeeeeee.............

About an hour later I woke up in a small pool of blood with those two fans just staring at me......it was like they were just staring at me in victory...as though this is what they are made to do. So now I'm gonna have 4 Apache Helicopters in my new box that are out to get me.

Well....to tame these War Choppers, I hooked 2 of them up to the Vantec Fan Speed controller......and turned them down to where they don't sound so bad. So I decided to keep em, and I'll just crank em up to ludicrous speed when I'm doing some serious overclockin.

So I'm hear to share my experience and say that I'm glad I made it, and was able to tame the 4 wild beasts.

I'm not at all a clumsy person...I just wasn't paying close enough attention. So all of you out there....b careful with these biatches.....and knowing is half the battle.

Gratefully still hear,

JohnnyTT

ps. I added the passin out part for effect....hope ya liked it.

Yup, it's in my room....but my current box is relatively loud, but I like the noise in the background when I sleep, so it doesn't bother me. I'm just worried about the nightmares from hearing the 4 Air Demons screaming through the night.

I'm glad that I'm alive to write this aswell...not that it has anything to do with your post.
Although I have held various sized fans in my hands while they were operating. Once I dropped a 60mm which then hit my videocard and broke a bunch of fan blades off. The other time I hurt myself...never again. lesson learned. As it turns out I won't be able to "hold onto it."
Bad call.
I hope the pool of blood that you work up in doesn't stain your carpet or something...

A friend of mine has THREE Vantec Tornados in his computer. I swear, every time I leave his house I feel like I've suffered at least a 5% hearing loss.

I'm building a system right now and he's trying to convince me to buy some of those as well. Any time he tries I just give him a blank stare and say 'Huh? What was that?'

the sad thing is that you really dont need all that fan power. If you are serious about overclocking you would go water cooling.

Almost killed? Nah, just took a little skin!

Trust me, it's nothing like being in a tub when the radio falls in! :Q

Cheers!

You'll eat those words when you get sick of the noise from "serious overclockin!"

I just tried it ... with a generic 80mm fan. No blood, no mess but I can imagine the fun with a more powerful one :D

Hmmm, instead of OC-ing my rig, I'm gonna figger out more than than my rig can OC my adrenaline

Great story! I will be getting ONE Vantec Tornado with my Swiftech MCX462+ but of course I will have it hooked up to the Vantec Nexus thing to tone it down to sane levels. I still just like the idea of being able to push so much air!

Thanks Grimace.

Yeah everybody, I know, these 4 Blowers are gonna be pretty insane, but when I got em all turned down....it's just as loud as my current unit. As for the water, I just didn't feel like that project.

MrMan3K.....wear gloves.

The amount of air these things push is freekin amazing........

I'm writing this with my fresh bandaids on my thumb. I had to use 2 cause the blood was coming through just one.

Dude, you gotta' stop doing trying things that hurt other people...you know, like sticking your fingers into fans...licking chainsaws, that kind of thing...

I have a thermaltake dragon orb and I had my case open with my cpu on and somehow I managed to touch the top of the HSF with my finger and squirt it took a little chunk of skin right off. That thing spins at 7200RPm and sounds like my moms dustbuster. SO be careful with that one too.
