Wow...my roommate REALLY doesn't know much about snow

UNCjigga

Lifer
Roomy: "Wow, its full of ice out there!"

Me: "Huh? That's snow."

Roomy: "Snow, ice, same thing!"

and then later on...

Him: "Hey what is that thing they are putting on the roads and sidewalk? Its messy and it stained my shoes!"

Me: "Oh thats rock salt and sand mix. Prevents icing and helps cars with traction."

Him: "Well after it snows they should spray water on it to clean it up!

Me: 😕

I swear his standard answer to clean anything is to pour a bucket of water on it. I had to explain to him that during the winter we might not see temps rise above freezing for weeks.

Aren't you Indian too UNCJigga? Your roommate probably is your acting like your dad when he first came to the US.

Doubt it. My dad's family is from Himachal Pradesh (foothills of the Himalayas) so he knows a thing or two about snow.

But funny story...when my parents first moved to North America, they decided to settle in Edmonton, Alberta first as that's where my dad had earned his engineering degree, and he had friends in the area. My mom had never been there though. They arrived in July. They moved out the following July!!! 😀

man you love picking on your 'desi' roommate, when I was FOB I would have hated to have a ABCD roommate like you who would post everything I do on the intraweb 😛 , its all in good fun I guess 😉

i know some girl from greece......shes in her first year here, and you shoulda seen the look on her face when it started to snow, we all thought she'd judt seen someone get shot or something! but before we could ask her what was up she was out side in it! hahaha

Sorry I have to ask, but I have lived in Southern California all my life so I do not know a thing about snow. What did you mean by "Prevents icing and helps cars with traction" ?

I never posted about my roommate last year, did I? He was 'fob' too (from Hyderabad)...and the only thing I might have posted was that he cooked the SPICIEST food I have ever eaten and is the only person I know who can order BW3 wings with Blazin' sauce and barely break a sweat. He was only here for a year (MS program vs. MBA) and so I had to get a new roommate in September. But my old roommate wasn't as clueless as the new guy.

Lots of people don't know about snow, this morning on my way home from work I was driving behind a guy in a lightweight, rear-wheel drive, no weight in the back pickup, with Georgia license plates. What he was doing in Vermont during a snowstorm I'll never know, but he was fishtailing all over the place, pounding his brakes while going down hills (sliding sideways too), all sorts of crazy stuff.
