MSI emailed me back (quick) with a newer version (1.4) of the bios. I really don't have any spare floppies lying around...can I flash the bios from windows?

One more thing, could it be that the IO metal things (the little tabs) aren't touching the ports properly? I read somewhere that these tabs should touch the back of the motherboard so that everything stays grounded or something.

im not sure

i think my cheap ass computer..doesnt have these tabs touching the case....works fine....plus waht about those tech stations...they wouldnt work if u had to have the I/O panel grounded

but im not one to be saying for def.....im not knowledgable enough

Generally, when Windows' recognizes otherwise-working USB devices as "unrecognized device" when plugged into a USB port - the USB port is either mis-wired (DATA+ and DATA- accidentally swapped), or just plain fried. In your case, probably the latter. 🙁

Yeah I figured. Probably when I was moving the fans around without wearing my anti-static wrist thing - I just didn't think it was necessary seeing as pretty much no one here uses them. You know, I touched the outside of my case today and I got a small shock (don't worry it didn't hit anything else). I'm never wearing socks again.

Warning to all: Wear an anti-static wrist band.

Ok I filled out Monarch's RMA form, this is my first RMA on anything ever. Wish me luck and I hope I don't break anything in the shipping 😛

Man , I hope my Neo 2 coming from Monarch is ok....I bought the "free set-up" mobo/CPU combo because it was cheaper but they could easily just throw me a customer returned unit....yeah sounds paranoid but MSI makes some sketchy stuff IMO and this mobo is very popular AND has alot of minor issues...a recipe for alot of returns.

I have tried 2 MSI mobos in the past and neither one worked out well.

I wanted the Soltek 939 board Newegg has but it was out of stock yesterday...of course the next day its back in stock. 🙂

I figure if there are signs of it being previously installed (ie screwmarks) I am just going to ask for my money back.

this is my first RMA on anything ever
