go have him buy her some jewlery, and have it hidden, with a second poem he writes, give clues, on stuff, and make her find it, or something.

Yes, because buying someone something expensive means it means more than...........something he made for her. How sad your logic is.

Well, Corporate ... consider this.

Would you rather get:

A) A homemade poem (which, honestly isn't very good by the way) on crappy piece of paper

or

B) A nice piece of jewellry (I'm not talking majorly expensive) to show that he cares.

He says he doesn't want to break up with her but I'm not sure I'm buying it ... he can't be this ignorant.

this guy sounds like a bum. he knows what's wrong, and he doesn't fix it?

"Oh, the kids need to go to the hospital? Meh."

"Dammit, I already feel guilty enough for accidentially dropping a heavy object on you, don't make me get up and call 911 for you too!"

"Divorce? What? Why don't we just stare at a wall instead?"

*edit*
in addition, the love poem doesn't sound like its very well prepared - almost like an afterthought, seeing as its on POS paper and probably not that well written. he didn't take the time to figure out what his girlfriend wanted, and he didn't spend much money not time at all on her, while she's getting him an expensive gift that she knows he'll appreciate. she's caring enough to spend a great amount of money on him, while he gives her a gift better suited for a first date.

What about writing a better poem... and present it in a much better way. My girlfriend always did this and always made my expensive gift look small.

Yes, I would rather get a home-made [love] poem. Is it hard to understand that someone taking his time to write you something is more endearing than going to a store to buy something highly priced? The contents of the poem means a lot more to me than what kind of paper it was written on . . . the spirit of it is what ultimately matters. Why do people value even relationships based upon how much money is put out?

You seem to think that monetary value is more meaningful in a relationship. For all you know, she may accept and appreciate his home-made poem and rather feel guilty that she didn't make up time to do something similar.

However, again, if she doesn't appreciate it or he's worried, it's simple: Go get her something!

If he is so concerned about it, he should go get her another present. Hes got time. You also can't be sure how she'll take it maybe she'll love that poem. I'm sure there are plenty of more opportunities to shell out cash for his girl, but I'm sure he'll score points for doing something meaningful.

I'm with luvly, I'd take the poem anyday. Anyone can just buy something, it takes something special for someone to take their time and make something for you.

Like Snoop Doggy Dogg says, "keep your hand on yo grip" .. dont' spend the money until there is a ring on the finger..
