At my store (7-11 in Canada) we are now offering an 85% exchange rate on the US dollar. Meaning $20 US gets you $17 Canadian. Typically retailers do charge something of a premium for accepting US currency, around 5% extra or so. So this rate was probably calculated when the US dollar hit close to 90% a while back. It might go up again when they recalculate what exchange rate to offer, usually every month or so, then again with the dollar fluctuating so much who knows where it will be latter?

Ironically many of the Canadian nurses I work with still would rather drive to Detroit from the Windsor area to work here in the states as a nurse...None of the canadian nurses I work with plan to stop working over here in the states despite the pay cut they are essentially getting.

A lack of trust in the stability of the US economy? Current numbers may not be horrible but there are a LOT of bad signs on the horizon.

We should just annex Canada already. It is not like they could resist - all we have to do is find where they hide their tank and call in an airstrike.

a big cause is the rate cuts

Not entirely. When Greenspan cut the rate to around 1% back in 2002 the greenback didnt plummet

Let it fall ... let it fall ...

As the dollar falls American goods become more affordable overseas which will reduce our trade deficit.

There are negative aspects to a falling dollar ... I just choose not to mention them at this time.

You obviously don't live near the Border. Not only are $CDN accepted, even when < par are accepted at par. There are US Shopping Malls built specifically for CDN Shoppers.

Damned people willing to go into massive debt. They've driven up the price of houses. I long for the days of being able to afford a house, car, and family on one income.

Why, yes he does. He's engaged to my cousin, Shelly from Canada. Do you know her as well?

some people argue that the housing crisis is caused by greenspan... Interest rate was too low so that everyone pile on debt.

Rising cost of imports isn't really helping reduce the deficit.
Sure exports may be more competitive, but when the price of raw materials and oil are so high it doesn't help as much as it could do.

Speaking of Canada, why is everything a giant rip off over there? It's obscene! Not just the taxes, but utilities, gas, cell phone service, fees at banks, even groceries are all ridiculously expensive compared to America.

Yeah but in this case the rate cut isnt a correction, its to jack off the DJIA, which sadly backfired as well.

You haven't been around much have you? Canada's cheap compared to the UK and much of Europe!
