Hello Folks,

I have been playing WoW for about a week and I really enjoy it. I am a level 11 Paladin and I need to find\buy some better armor and a solid one handed sword. Any tips? I have tried buying from the vendors but I seem to have maxed out on the equipment that I can buy from them. I have tried to trade with other players. I know there is a trade channel and auction area but I must not be in the right area. I have discovered been to the Abbey, SW and GS.

Thanks, Bill

Take the underground tram from Stormwind to Iron Forge. The auction house if in IF. The tram is in the north eastern corner of SW.

need not to worry about weps or armor till L18-20

just quest and there will be some drops sufficient enough.

don't rely on AH too much or you'll never have any gold saved up.

Just use what you find and earn through quests and save your money until you have completed Deadmines @ 20 or so. That extra +1 spirit isn't going to help you...

Thanks. I just found the tram in the Dwarven district if I recall. I will jump on the bus and see what happens.

Why is AC or Weapon important until lvl 18? Thanks, Bill

Before lvl 20, you level up so quickly that your equipment gets obsolete before you really get the chance to use it. It's better just to save your money and use the gear you get yourself from questing.

save your money for your mount

you will find enough good stuff off drops and quest rewards to stay competitive

If you are buying "great" equipment before, say, level 20, you are wasting your money. At that level, you still gain levels fairly quickly so you will grow out of the item quickly AND the stat bonuses on lower level items are almost worthless.

For example, here is a level 15 chest armor for a Paladin. You think shelling out the bucks for +1 Strength is going to help you level faster? It is a nice item for a level 15 player, but is not worth spending money on... On the other hanp, at level 20 you can run the Shadowfang Keep instance and have apretty good chance of getting this item Note that it is bind on pick-up. Most of the best items are like that, so you can't buy them anyway...

Random drops, quest rewards and instance drops will serve you better for a long time.

Here is my character

I bought only 4 of those items and have auctioned off more than that many. The rest are all items I have gotten from questing and running instances and for most of them, you couldn't buy a better item... Getting into a guild will help as a higher level blacksmith could make you some good armor and weaponry...

I'll add that it is VERY MUCH worth finding and using the Auction House at any level just to sell the stuff you pick up. Vendors pay a ptttance for what you can sell at 10x the price in an AH.

Note - the best thing to do is create a human alternate character and run him to Stormwind and then to Ironforge and have him just camp out at the auction house to sell your stuff for you. You can just mail him items when you are at a mailbox and stay away from lagforge for the most part...

Except that there's a sh|t ton of quests involving the inhabitants of Ironforge. The worst part for me was porting in - took perhaps 30 seconds to clear up so I could move but after that it was fine 95% of the time. How much RAM do you have and what's your cpu?

Nice tip. Many thanks.

As a follow up question. If I deposit money\equipment in a bank in SW, can I access the money\equipment from any bank in any town? Could any of my characters access each others stuff as well?

Thanks, Bill

I have a Gig of Ram and am running at about 2 GHz. Logging into Iron Forge takes about 30 seconds before you can move.

And I never said you shouldn't stay out of lagforge, just that you can minimize uneccesary trips to that lagfest by using an auction alt.

You can not access stuff in other characters bank accounts, but you can deposit in the Stormwind bank and access it in the Ironforge, Booty Bay, Ratchet, Gadgetztan, Dranassus, etc banks...

Couldn't I just send money from one of my characters to the other character for Wow Email?

Yes, but you use the bank to store items, not to store cash.

I was playing in West Field (or whatever it is called) last night and I picked up a nifty two handed sword that does 20 - 60 in damage per round. NICE! I still do not have any armor above what you can get from the vendors. I did go to the auction house - what a lag drag! The response time once I got through to the auctioneer was slooooooowww. Plus, all the stuff was way too expensive for a lowly now 13 Paladin. I think I only have about 20 silver or so.

How do you check which server you are on? I am in Florida so I chose the server the game recommends. From what I have read, the default choice takes you to the closest, geographic server.

I think they just recommend a low pop server in your side of the country (E, Mid, W). Grats on the sword :)

You can see your server on the char select screen.

Oh, and you can olny send to characters on the same server and the same faction...

To answer your other question (from a different post) the log-in screen will say what server your characters are on. Just look at the top right of the screen before you hit <enter world>

I would do as suggested and join a guild which has a decent blacksmith and perhaps he could make some decent gear for you. Hehe If you were on my server, I'd make you a full set of gear befitting your level.

When setting up a server, it suggests a lower pop server, not necessarily one which is closest to you (since mine is on the west coast but I'm actually on the east coast and I just accepted the suggested server when setting up).

You are still low enough level to start over with a new character on the Bronzebeard realm! You can join the ATOT guild - the Knights of Nef. You will be glad you did as we give out lots of advice and free stuff to ATOT n00bs like yourself...
