seriously there is a program on right now called "raised by the hand of god"

theres a family on here, that smack their children with the rod of correction (which is fine by me btw)

but it seems to me, they are bringing up their children as christians....ie imposing christianity on to them, not letting them chose for themselves

secondly....home schooling, where all they are taught is the values of family, the bible and gods world and things he created.

and to prove just how good this education is....their eldest, most successful daughter is ....... a cleaner.

wow. biblical parenting is obviously the way to go.

i feel sorry for the lot of them, brought up in a nicey nicecy christian home, unexposed to the big bad world...with no skills this side of bible bashing that are worth a second thought.

EDIT: they arent allowed to watch TV, only the same collection of christian bible bashing videos over and over again. they are completely cut off from the external media....no magazines, tv, radio, pop music...nothing. how are they gonna cope in the real world?

seriously they went to the library and directed their children away from the harry potter rack....and onto narnia instead, beacause narnia is "based on real events" and the bible.

I hope you are smart enough to not make a judgment about all Christians over this one program. Of course what they show on TV is supposed to be shocking, if it were at all normal you think it would even be on TV?

Watch "Jesus Camp", you'd love it!

I was always for the whole idea of letting the child decide for themselves. Though as I get older I can appreciate the parents right to raise the children how they see fit, not how the children see fit. Children arn't capable of making the decisions you think they should be making.

All I see is your anger towards organized religion, masked behind a dislike of their parenting methods. Had this special been about parents who push their children into sports, would you feel the same way?

You are an idiot and for the sake of our species you should never reproduce.

Wow, just wow. non-biblical parenting is a joke.

Seriously there is a program on right now called "raised by the hand of an atheist"

theres a family on here, that smack their children with the rod of correction (which is fine by me btw)

but it seems to me, they are bringing up their children as atheists....ie imposing atheism on to them, not letting them chose for themselves

secondly....home schooling, where all they are taught is the values of family, and the way atheists believe the world was created.

and to prove just how good this education is....their eldest, most successful daughter is ....... a cleaner.

wow. atheism-based parenting is obviously the way to go.

i feel sorry for the lot of them, brought up in a nicey nicecy atheist home, exposed to the big bad world...with no skills this side of bible-bashing that are worth a second thought.

EDIT: they are allowed to watch TV, especially the collection of christian bible-bashing videos over and over again. they are completely exposed to the external media....magazines, tv, radio, pop music...everything. how are they going to form their own opinions?

Everyone has their own beliefs. You don't have the right to judge anyone else. So stop. If they want to raise their children that way then fine. You raise yours the way you want and go on with your life like you want it to.

ATOT has become too much of a judgmental, Christian hating society. I swear I see these same kinds of posts 4 or 5 times daily.

lol, I don't know of any atheists that try and protect their children from hearing other views or opinions but I suppose it could exist.

YES WE DO have THE RIGHT to judge others. This is what social morality allows.
I may not have the right to impose that judgment on another, but I have the right to make all the judgments I care to.

Watching the same thing! the families are a little odd to say the least and the children don't seem to have any choice in their beliefs (even when older).

But this isn't representative of Christian families as a whole, I feel this show could do a bit more to clarify that these people are taking things to extremes.

Managed to watch the Louis Theroux show on the Phelps/Westboro Baptist Church yesterday - that was a very enlightening show.

I don't see how a few strange people make all Christians wackos. I was raised in a Christian home. My dad's a pastor. I'm an engineer and my brother is the worship leader at my church. I say we turned out OK.

well no i dont think i would

id like my children to be active, and good at school but im not gonna push them. if they happen to come home from school one day all enthusiastic about football, or cricket...all i do what i can to help them persue it. if they then decide they dont like it, i might be annoyed that i spent all that money, but ill help them with whatever they get into next.

my mum n dad took me swimming, they thought being able to swim was a useful skill, which i hope everyone here would agree.

i was always happiest covered in water, even as a baby i have been told i enjoyed getting a bath more than anything else. few years later it turns out i wasnt half bad at this swimming thing and got serious about it.

but when ive said i wanted to quit, i was allowed....i wasnt pushed to stay. i went back on my own accord after i realised i missed it.

same with the interest in cars, engineering and the like...its just something ive developed. no ones pushed me to like those things, thats just what ive grown up to like.

thats how ill bring mine up. ok if they go off the rails into drugs and ASBO's i might have to intervene..... i mean who wouldnt ?
