WoW initial impressions

I'm still very pleased with WoW, today is getting to me though, ALL of the servers down at once? Unless the issue has come up this morning, which I cant imagine is the issue, why couldnt they do this last night in the AM, rather then now its 1pm and servers are just coming back 🙁

I had trouble finding a character I liked, I started out as a shaman, none of my friends wanted to be horde [bastages] So i switched to an NE Rogue, leveled to 12 and restarted another char.. did this about 4 times. Finally found the hunter class and I think I've found my niche, very entertaining.

I for one.... am skipping most of my quests unless they are things im actively killing. I can't justify spending 15 minutes running somewhere to get 1~2k exp. Right now I'm just trying to catch up to the PvP group, perhaps on my next character I'll take my time

Kinda late for 'initial impressions.' Not like the game came out yesterday. Pretty much everyone who have been interested in WoW have bought it by now and have leveled their toons into the teens and above.

You're right. This couldn't possibly be helpful to people who haven't played it yet. I'm also sure nobody will be given a copy of this for Christmas. If it helps you, why don't we pretend the subject is "MY initial impressions of WoW"? There we go. This may come as a shock, but not everyone runs out and buys games on the day of its release. Did you not read my compelling story of what can happen when I did this with UO?

While you start out well, how often can you turn to UO as being a bad MMO, 3D was a bad idea, only new players who know no better play/played it. It is undeniably the best PvP mmo to date, sorry you never got into it. I wasnt around for the first of UO but there was ALOT of tweaking done [Anyone remember one pound bandies? Cutting each one seperate?] Stuff like that changed, it was one of the first MMO's, it wasn't perfect but it was damn near close for awhile.

this is my first time to read a post of yours, and my 'initial impression' is that you are a dumbass. or, is it 'kinda late fo 'initial impressions' because you have been around all of 12 years?

😕

'Initial impressions' are typically written to the benefit of those who have not purchased the game yet.....a game that has been released a day or two of the writing. But, after re-reading your post, I must admit that I'm glad you took the time to enlighten us with your views as they are gleaming nuggets of insight from a veteran gamer. Because now we understand that you think past MMORPGs sucked, that you dislike 'd00dz and powergamers', that you like to play paladins, that you went to bed not very impressed with the game but now you think you might play tonite, etc. I feel somehow diminished that I have offended someone with this kind of gaming insight. But all that matters now is that you made your thoughts known to the public....whether it be two days post release or two weeks. I just want to say 'thank you.'

What servers are you guys on that are seeing short day/night cycles? The 2 servers I am on (Malygos and Silver Hand) both run real time day/night cycles. Sunset about 8 PM sunrise about 4 or 5 AM.

Gorefiend.. it is definatly not real time.. i play almost 100% late in evenings when sun should be down in game and its bright and sunny....
are you in Horde lands.. alot of thier zones specially near the undead city are pretty much eternal darkness...
just like the allainces duskwood and darkshore areas..
yet if i go to westfall,RR,IF or SW it will have normal day night cycles...

Why do I keep turning to UO as a bad MMO? It's pretty much the only MMO I've played besides a VERY brief stint on EQ. So I don't have much else to base MMORPGs on. Trust me, on that fateful day/month of continued play nobody was more disappointed than me when things didn't seem to improve. Obviously this all changed given the huge community it later built.

No, all of the areas I have been have obvious day/night differences, sun out in the day time, moon and stars out at night. Perhaps they have implemented accelerated time servers? I will have to check out Gorefiend

Expect a lot of bitterness about UO. For every person who thinks as you do, there were 10 newbies who played 30 minutes, stepped outside town, got killed and looted by P1mPmastaH and YerDaddy and then quit, never to look back.

Some people think having a game where the players who want to make pretty dresses and roleplay weddings can be killed at any time by players who get a kick out of doing so is the best game ever. Oddly, the victims in question rarely seem to agree with them.

LOL, that was almost my experience. For me it was being attacked by a rabbit and my spastic character not able to land one blow. I had to run back to the safe confines of Britannia to avoid being killed by the horrible beast.

My experience was nothing like that. I had so many technical issues with the game that I never really was bothered by PVP / PK. The game was basically unplayable for me any time there was much activity. A stone thrown in a pond could have caused me problems. I did have a lot of fun improving some skills while off in a remote location of the city though.
