the only time i have time to exercise is during the summer... any other time im occupied with school.. so yeah, decided to run a couple laps around the track field at the local school this morning.. This will be a warm up week, so after i did 2 laps i took a break and just walked one lap. Then did another 2 laps to finish my mile.. all i have to say is, it was pitiful... i did one lap and i was completely out of breath. By the third lap i almost had the urge to throw up. Yeah it was pitiful. :(

o and im not over weight.. just out of shape. 6'0 @ 155lbs.. finally decided to get off my ass and exercise..

Running a mile was pretty hard for me too. I really wasn't overweight either, I just hate running. Despite that I can do treadmill for 20 mins grade 13, 3.1mph without that much difficulty. I'm probably a better sprinter than a runner. I always get that feeling where all my saliva has been sucked out of me when I run. I can't recall ever having to run from anything for any extended period of time. I focus more on strength than endurance. Hell if some monster was chasing me I could just strangle it even if it does catch up to me.

What's the point, if you're just going to turn into a fatass again over the winter?

Same for me :(.

Ran 1/2 a mile, ran out of breath, went between jogging and walking for next 1/2 mile last week. First time I ran for a while.

I'm 14 years old, 125lbs, 5'7-8".

I used to be able to run at LEAST 1 1/2 miles before getting so tired.

I was going to start jogging again. Can anyone recommend a good brand for off-pavement running shoes? I have a lot of dirt and gravel around my house.

I know a mile would kill me at 6'4" @ 236lbs.

Yup, same here. I had not run for several months and had been meaning to start back here recently but the heat kept discouraging me from doing so. So I finally got up early this last Saturday so I could run while it was still fairly cool. I tried to run a 5.5 miles off road course around a lake that is less than a mile from my house and was winded in the first half mile. Part of it was the extreme humidity around the lake, but most of it was my own fault. It was pathetic.

I also "tweaked" my left knee somehow. I didn't feel it while running, but yesterday and today I have been limping for a few seconds after sitting for a while because my knee is stiff and sore. So it looks like I won't be running today as planned. Guess I'll mow the yard :(

6'0" & 155lbs? Sounds like you need to eat not burn calories! I'm 6'0" and 210lbs (but can run a 7min mile).

Eh...6' and 155 lbs is perfectly fine and in the "normal" range says the government.

wow...im 6'2", 220, and can run 10+ miles. you can and should stick with it and get better. if you can consistantly run 3 times a week, doing whatever distance and speed is slightly uncomfortable, you'll get a lot better

Todd33, you ought to go to a running store and let them pick a pair. being a big person, you will probably need something with a lot of cusioning. and try to run on grass or soft dirt as much as possible. concrete gives me problems
