Wow, I'm broke!

Gosh I'm poor at the moment.

Just filled out my teen son's FAFSA. When it got to assets I checked my bank accounts and realized that I have a total of $524 in the bank.

Didn't realize how poor I am. No house, no investments or savings, just two really old cars. No debt (no credit cards). Son actually has a lot more in the bank than I do.

Went thru bankruptcy last year due to my son's stolen Medical Billing and Code Information - he's had massive medical bills for years and we started getting billed for stuff that didn't exist. It's much harder to clear up than stolen CC's and stuff.

I work freelance, PT, contract work, miscellaneous, done it for years and years. I used to be a computer programmer but when I lost my long term job discovered it's hard for us older women to get those jobs, so I've just worked on my own. I started programming on punch cards, ya know . . .

Anyway, lots of people owe me money at the moment - didn't realize quite how many! And Paypal froze my business account recently and I'm waiting for them to thaw it.

I was supposed to work this week, sewing theater costumes, but my niece is dying of cancer and we've been spending time with her & family. She won't last more than a day or two, alas. Teenager with breast cancer.

I'm assuming that today is the low point! It can't get much worse, financially . . . Time to make some phone calls and start looking for more work.

Only good thing is that DS should get some aid from the FAFSA.

P.S. there's a reason we waited until now to file the FAFSA, but no need to go into it.

/me googles FASFA

Sorry to hear about the niece

Not only am I broke, but my brain is fried. I didn't even know there WAS an Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia.

Corrected for acronym spelling.

My family is in the same boat. The estimated family contribution for our FAFSA was 00048. Fourty-eight dollars from my family per semester was my predicted dollar amount.

walfare is a great thing. to bad its been abused over the years.

i have no trouble helping somone who is busting ass but not able to get ahead. i hate paying for someone who wants to sit home and do shit and have the goverment give them everything. pitty there is so many of them that do it.

Welcome to my world. Well, sort of. Things aren't quite as bad as in yours, <knock on wood> but I certainly understand being "broke." (and have been there before)
When I got hurt 5 years ago, my wages got cut by over 50% when I went on work comp, and even though the cost of living has skyrocketed since then, my checks haven't increased one dime.
FORTUNATELY, my weekly checks are still enough to live on, just no extra "disposable income."

As for all the "welfare" comments, where did that come from? I don't see anything in the OP that states that she's collecting anything from the gov't. If she is, then I'd presume she's met all the qualifications to do so. While I don't like seeing people collect it who don't need it, I have no problem with folks getting that actually DO need it.

Good luck to ya princess. I sincerely hope life turns around for you soon.

Best wishes for a correction to your plight and my deepest condolences for the niece's situation. THAT sux...kids should NOT have to go through such crap. Out of all the things in life that fit in the "Not Fair" category, kids with terminal illnesses is at the top of the list.

Welfare is like a drug; when used by the right people at the right time in the right amounts, it can do wonders. Sadly, it can also be abused to the point where it sows destruction.

Anyways, sorry about your niece 🙁 Good luck on turning things around.

You're working hard, you've got a good head on your shoulders and you're debt free. Believe me, things will turn around. Remember the old adage: "This too shall pass."

It's very hard to look at other things and say wow, I got it good right now even though I'm down in the dumps but hopefully you'll see it. I can't do that though. When I am down in the dumps, it feels like I am the only person experiencing this and am worse than everyone else, including amputees or people who have recently lost a loved one. I guess it may be selfishness or I'm not sure but I really try to look at things from another perspective but it usually doesn't work.
