Yeah you can always go live in China and play WoW for cheap there. oh as a bonus if you are an average looking white guy and go to a night club in China you'll become the hot item, fantasy fulfilled.

I actually don't play WoW. I'm just shocked that China accounts for so little revenue when nearly half the players are from there.

Aren't those people still paying the monthly fee even if they don't get to play it 24/7? So would that not then account for revenue equivalent to the amount of players?

They pay by the hour and do so at cafes usually so they aren't buying the game/xpacs afaik.

Still, they'd have to have an account right? That's the bread and butter of WoW.

I can't see how that's worth it, servers are going to be a relatively fixed cost anywhere I'd think, and that's a huge player base to support.

I'm surprised there's not more Americans though. Given the number of people I've met that play WOW is significantly higher than any other game (even far better selling games), I get the impression that almost anyone who plays PC games, even casually, has played it.

Nope - that won't happen until the PC does actually die as a gaming platform - maybe in about 25 years when Portable VR devices will be our gaming platform.

The cost to run the servers is also considerably higher here due to higher salaries of employees and just generally higher costs all around.

In short... US is kinda inflated in the economy.... wondering why the economy is so screw up right now...

15 bucks a month sounds fine.... if you consider that one night in a cinema with friends is around 15 bucks... or more? lol! also going into a restaurant to have fun is more than 15 bucks in one night... and the food kinda makes me ill...

hey people if you wondering how they got all this china guys into wow and low revenue... well in china you dont pay montly suscription at all.. u buy a card with some hours of gameplay, after you play those hours u need another card....

you can burn your time card in two days or in two months, I never believe how many players wow have because of this...

My friend tried to liken WoW to a cocaine addictions. I laughed at him and told him if I had been addicted to cocaine, I would have substantially less money. WoW is cheap entertainment. For some, it is even a diet, as they don't stop playing to eat!

The average Chinese doesnt make anything near to what the average American hourly, daily, or yearly, makes so its no surprising to me its only 6%. I was kinda surprised however the Chinese players make up about half the overall WoW players though. I thought it would be somewhat less.

Yeah, this is the "free trade" thing again. They want free trade, but want us to pay the old expensive prices. Like with region DVDs, they want to sell them in India for $2 USD and keep the price here for $20 but hey we can't have anyone importing those $2 DVDs and selling for $4 because whaaa!

You realize that $15/mo comes out to about $0.021/hour, right?

They're probably paying the same amount per hour as the US is, they just pay it a little at a time, rather than as a lump sum.

Some people may not remember, but back in the day, you paid for internet service by the hour as well, and it was considerably more expensive.

I doubt most US players play 24/7.

I'd rather pay for the time I use, it might help curb botters and AFK'ers as well.

This is me. I'd probably play WoW if I could do so for around $0.25/hour.

Average income in China is substantially lower than in the US, even among the subset of Chinese people who have access to the PC and Internet that they need to play WoW. Charging them what they charge US players would probably eliminate that 6% of their revenue entirely.
