Wow. I think I just discovered the uber-cure for canker sores.

I've had (and still have) a shitload of work this week, so I needed study food. Went down to HarryMart (on campus equivalent, basically the food section of a drug store) and bought some of those 2 for $1 sunflower seed packs. The constant chewing/swallowing tricks the stomach into thinking you're eating, so it still feels full.

Anyway, I've also had 2 nasty cankers for the last couple of days, but after ingesting an entire pack of sunflower seeds and sucking the salt off the shells, the cankers have decreased in size by 75% in 24 hours, and that's after downing a whole bottle of coke last night (which should have aggravated them). I knew salt did the trick, but this is just an awesome delivery method (much better than swishing salt water). Just have a trash can near at hand and eat them while you work.

Except sun flower seeds tend to cause canker sores in a lot of people (chewing two many seeds causes small cuts in the mouth from the shells...)

I just use iodized salt (not too much, but not too little either) in warm water. Swish it around the area vigorously, and spit.
It has always worked wonders for me.

I don't chew the shells. I break them open with my teeth and "scoop" the seed out with my teeth.

The shells generally go into the trash can in 2-4 large symmetrical pieces.

Stop drinking acidic beverages (buy low acid OJ) and that will help to prevent them.

The salt from the sunflower seeds likely dried out the sores. I've used alum in the past and it usually makes them go away within a day. Alum is a seasoning used in pickling, but it dries stuff out like nobody's business.

Better drink a lot of water to counter the salt later.

Oh, don't eat to many sun flower seeds, they can wreak havoc on your bowels.

Hahaha. I take psyllium supplements, and eat at least 2 bags of popcorn every day. My bowels can take a measly pack of sunflower seeds (I don't eat the shells). :)

On that note, high fiber diets are quite good for the bowels (assuming you drink plenty of water), and once you keep it up for a few days, you don't get the diarrhea. I basically have one large shit every morning, and according to my research it's shaped the right way (curved, anything but straight).

Enjoy the visual.
