So, where did you hide the weed so that the fuzz wouldn't find it?

I never ever carry anything like that one me just in case something like this happened....

Also a quick question, since I got no ticket, my insurer wont raise my rate, correct?

Just keep some beer bottles up front partially filled with pee from a friend. That usually gets you off. ;)

Just be glad you're white, otherwise you would have got shot.
Srsly, should feel lucky. I got my ID ran through by a park ranger because my break light wasn't working right. Talk about coincidences.

you should probably learn your rights so you don't get walked all over next time.

They search my car and I explain to them that I was just trying to get home after a long day.

In that situation.. I'd probably let the cops search. If you have nothing to hide why not cooperate?

Never, ever, ever, give up your 4th amendment right and allow police to search your vehicle. An officer must have real evidence of illegal activity or contraband to search your vehicle. All you are doing by "cooperating" in a search is allowing the potential opportunity for something to be planted on you. You gain absolutely nothing by agreeing to a vehicle search.

I have been asked twice. I responded very politely with, "Officer. I understand you are doing your job and I respect your inquiry, but I will not allow a search of my vehicle at this time. Is there anything else I can help you with, sir?". Both times I drove away with a warning.

Atleast thats a good way to go about it. And while I agree that its not necessarily worth giving up your rights for, depending on the officer it could help get you a warning vs a ticket. Again though, depends on the situation

I don't presume to be an expert on the subject so my experiences serve to justify my statements, but I would venture to presume it would be highly reliant on your location. In some harsher locations of the US, saying what I said would result in 5 more police cars showing up and you being manhandled while they rip your vehicle apart with knives simply for not immediately saying yes.

So, your mileage definitely may vary. Still, even in that situation I would rather have the law on my side and would stick to my guns regardless of the unfortunate consequences.

I think denying a vehicle search has nothing to do with your odds of getting a warning vs. a ticket. I think respecting the officer and the fact that he is only doing his job is 99.99% of it. They are people to, treat them like it and it will be rewarding enough.

If the OP had refused a search he probably would have walked away with a huge fine and a court date. All to avoid the extremely unlikely situation of a cop planting evidence for no reason.

Just a suggestion, but you should probably read beyond my first paragraph.

Though, precedence generally dictates you'd skim and make a blanket statement of some form of ignorant baseless objection, so I'm genuinely not surprised.
