Make a real salad at home. Saute 2 chicken breasts, spinach, broccoli, rice, generous amount of extra virgin olive oil (put most on after it's done cooking), garlic, teriyaki, pineapple. It will keep you full. In the time it takes to go to Mcdonalds, you'd have cooked it, and cleaned up.

290 calories, and 10gs of fat. Sorry I'll stick to making my own garden fresh salads.

Don't mean to be another fat food basher or thread crapper, but I just hope that people are informed, some people actually think fast food chain salads can be healthy.

Thats if you use everything on it..

I would get rid of the misc other stuff.. just have plain salad and a bit dressing.

The 10g of fat, 6 is from almond, i hate almonds

2g from the chicken... their chicken is a little scary, really high in sodium and high cholesterol also.

1.5g fat from "asian blend" what the heck is that..

Sounds decent enough. Nuts are a good source of fat.

I should have figured a thread about my lunch would turn into folks bitching about it being healthy... or not!
I said it was TASTY, not necessarily healthy!!

thats pretty much the worse salad they got, 1330 mg sodium, 235mg cholesterol, 450 calories. its the bacon bits, eggs thats killing you

the mandarian chicken salad is actually pretty decent..

low cholesterol 60 vs 235, lower sodium 480 vs 1330. Its got a higher fat, 26 vs 12, but the fat is from almond (11g) so if you omit the almond, its not bad. Use less dressing also..

A little health lesson...

Dietary cholesterol is not bad for you. Your LDL blood cholesterol is manufactured by your body, and it uses rich saturated fats (like bacon) to make it. Dietary cholesterol will have nearly no impact. In fact, if you take it out of your diet, you're going to screw up hormone production. If you're male, that means less testosterone => more body fat, less energy, less muscle, lower sex drive.

Fat is not bad for you. Almonds are a very healthy fat:

Sorry, I'm just sick of that fat fvck Jared from Subway telling people to eat ****** food, pay a premium for it, and think they're being healthy. It's very destructive to people's health.

I understand. People will do/believe what TV tells them!
If i want healthy, i will make it my self, i know that. it was a salad that had some substance to it that was better than eating a quarter pounder with fries for lunch!

Well obviously but people feel better when they dont have a choice because they're at work or on the road and they can stop at McD's and get something with 200 odd calories and 10 G's of Fat, honestly in comparison to other items on the McDonalds menu thats relatively healthy.

And hey dont diss subway, I love that place. I eat there pretty much every day that I'm at work. I work in a hospital and my choices are hospital cafeteria, which has some healthy fare but it's WAY overpriced(small salad with lettuce, carrots and tomatos 4 ounces costs 2.49 are you fvckin kidding me?!), Au Bon Pain which honestly has amazing food for the most part and some of it is very healthy but it's way overpriced in my mind.So that leaves me with the Subway which for the fact that I can get a decent priced 12 inch sub for 6-7 bucks(no chips or drink since I prefer water) And I never get dressing on my subs nor cheese as those are the big calorie/fat adders, usually I get a subway club with tomatos, onions, lettuce, olives and cucumbers, or sweet onion chicken teriyaki with same toppings and since I work 12 hour shifts one 6 inch part is for lunch, the other for dinner. In the end I think I've made a good and fairly healthy choice.

Except at Legend has pointed out better than I could, McDonalds is hardly close to eating "good" in the healthy or tasty sense of the word.

You guys are pathetic. McDonalds could give you an apple, and you'd try to claim that apple was somehow unhealthy compaired to apples sold elsewhere.

It's cool to hate McDonalds... no matter what they do.

1 gram of saturated fat and no trans fats. The rest is HEALTHY fats from the nuts.

But then, you think all fat is bad... a myth that has done it's fair share in contributing to the rise in obesity in the US.

The salad is a perfectly healthy fast alternative to other foods.

are you talking about an "organic" apple or a regular "chemical laden genetically altered" apple?

the hippies love those "organic" apples, i think it is because of the extra protein from the worms

And contrary to the mindless, biased ignorance in this forum, they are as healthy as anyone else's salads.

LMAO, I don't think fat is bad, I think eating any fast food is bad, especially one ladden down with unneccesary sodium and flavorings. Before you try to group me in with the hating McDonalds fad you should know I hate any food that isn't healthy.

Sodium is only an issue if you have pre-existing heart issues. Otherwise it's pretty benign.

Obviously moderation is the key, but it's not the devil like many people make it out to be.

Then you're irrational, because claiming this is unhealthy is clearly irrational.

BTW, sodium is only harmful to those predisposed to high blood pressure. It is harmless at those levels to people with normal blood pressure.

Flaverings? OMG!!! Teh evil flavorings!

Give me a break. That salad is as healthy, if not more healthy than most served in any restaurant. Your biased opinion is based on who sells it, not what's in it.

It is healthier relatively to other fast foods. However, it is not healthy overall. It only offers a few hundred calories, a significant amount which is from the sugar water dressing. It will leave the customer craving food very quickly. I'm assuming that they're drinking water or coffee with it.

The biggest thing I have against this salad is that it is fails to be economically or timely sound. I can prepare something much better with less money in the time it takes to go to Mcdonalds.

Furthermore, the quality of fast food salads, not just Mcdonalds, typically is very poor. Food doesn't just instantaneously expire. It gradually decays. The produce at grocery stores or farmer's markets is hands down vastly superior in terms of freshness and quality.

I can also put more healthy combinations. I could use broccoli, spinach, 2 chicken breast, rice, garlic, pineapple, teriyaki. I could put on a variety of nuts, and take fish oil supplements for the same price.

Unless you are buying in huge bulk, you aren't going to make it cheaper than you can buy at a fast food joint. Considering that broccoli is $4/lb here, and spinach is close to $3/lbs, plus chicken breast is $4/lb if not on sale, rice is cheap, garlic is $3/lb, pineapple is not cheap but I have no idea what it costs, teriyaki sauce is not that cheap, either. Throw in any nuts other than peanuts and suddenly cost jumps way way up.

But then after all that you have 6 pounds of salad that you have to eat in a very short period of time.
