When we lived in Wyoming, it wasn't at all uncommon to see a "flock?" of eagles gathered around some road kill...kind of takes the Majesty out of our National Symbol to see them eating garbage and road kill...but being out on a lake in a canoe fishing...and having a couple of them fishing alongside of you...awesome. Watching them swoop out of the sky and snatch a large trout out of the lake is impressive. They haz mad fishing skilz.
(but, as shown in this vid, they're also lazy and opportunistic feeders.)

To be fair any animal won't turn down a free meal.

I certainly won't!! :D

But I agree. Free and easy food attracts a lot of wild animals to human population areas. Look at the bear problem in Yellowstone. Campgrounds and garbage dumps are easy scavenging.

Very nearly George Michael's exact words when he got caught in a public bathroom with another dude. :D

It's pretty nuts on how strong birds can be with their hollow bones and all. Not sure if it was on OT that there was a video of a falcon taking down a fawn.

Speed on those dives give them a lot of strength.

I mean imagine a grain of sand going at the speed of light....

well... that would just destroy whatever it hit right? because of all the momentum and such

Its funny, Bald Eagles were so endangered and so protected that they have now become a menace in many parts of the US. Not to mention they are pretty much scavengers and oportunistic birds. Nothing like seeing the symbol of your nation digging through a garbage dumpster for a half eaten cheese burger like a common crow.

Still... cool video :)
And really, they will also eat carrion, like vultures - a bald eagle just happens to have feathers on its head.

Which brings up that whole thing where it was chosen for how it looks instead of the badass golden eagle that tells goats to gtfo its mountain.

crazy. odd though, as bald eagles tend to hate people.

video mentioned that the locals were line-netting the salmon as the swim up-river....which is HIGHLY illegal. Especially in Alaska.

Or did Red Salmon get the shaft compared to King Salmon and others when it comes to protection?

well, they tend to be more clever and noble than the scavenging bald eagle.

tastier, too.

Yeah letting kids around the golden ones wouldn't be a good idea.
