Read from bottom up.....friggin dumbarsses

Well, I think it has to work that way (going to their sort facilities etc.), although in this case it seemed to take a lot of extra steps.

If you mail a letter to your next-door neighbor, the postman can't just walk over there and drop it off.

Yeah but it won't travel two cities over just to come back 🙂

Why not drive it?

hehhe.... now who's the "friggin dumbarsses"
Pretty much what I thought...except take out the 'r' in 'dumbarsses.' 🙂

Maybe he has to send it via courier. It proves something was sent. It might be one of those situations where it's good to have the proof. Who knows. It does seem kinda funny though.

Maybe he lives in San Diego and ordered something from an online store which shipped it from a warehouse in San Diego. He didn't say he sent the package.

Thats how you do business...
You dont waste an hour to drive across town to deliver a parcel to someone else.
You should have something more important to do...

On Saturday, most outgoing mail is routed to Brooklyn from Staten Island. Alteast it used to be like that...

haha i remember a few months ago i checked the tracking status for a package I was getting from Oregon to California and apparently, Kansas is on the way.

Do all FedEx one day shipments still go through their main hub in Memphis? Back in '99, I was sent a 1-day letter package from three towns over that went through the FedEx station located in my town, flew to Memphis, came back to the local station, then was delivered to me. Call me crazy but I think that's a really screwed up business model. 😛

that sucks. from california to texas, my package only went through 2 facilities. of course, it sat at each for over a day at a time 😛

that's the problem with queuing systems. if you dont be careful, "short" tasks take longer while optimizing the longer ones. this still yields a lower average wait time. but it's stupid.

for the post office, there are generally 2 boxes, one for local mail, one for outside mail. that's the way cities handle it. i dont see the need for someone to mail anything to someone within a small town.
