Ok, so how much does it cost to get a car smogged in northner california?? I can't find it online and some guy is trying to buy a car from me. He's going to take off the cost of smogging it but he said it was $65. I thought it was more like $30-$40...

Depends if it is test only. Test only is about $50-60 regular is around $30 plus documents fee.

Docs are like $8, regular smog is a non-test only center; a place that can fix in addition to testing smog. Test only centers can only test the car. Look in the yellow pages if you need some prices, i'm going by what I remember paying last year.

so you're saying a regular smog is cheaper than a test-only smog? That's doesn't make sense to me...

Yeah, that's the way it is. The test only centers do a different test than the regular smogs. test only has the car run through at 5mph and at 15mph (on rollers) to simulate the car actually moving. More equipment means more costs to the facility. But hey, thats CARB for you, they impose the test only thing, and then the shop has to get certified to do the test, and they have to buy special equipment.

Regular smogs just test the engine at certain RPM.

Cost of smog is around here is $65. I had my car smogged last month but there was a $15 off coupon and it was $50 w/ documents.

I got my car smogged 2 weeks ago for $25 including the certificate. BTW I am in Southern Cal.

mine cost $73 after docs and tax in Bay area. The cheapest I saw was about 65 but they had a long wait.

that sucks.... you guys have to get your cars smogged... I ripped out the exhaust compressor (smog requirement) in my mustang and reset the computer when the pump went bad... so... I cant pass if I want to! Not like I care. NJ has to deal with my emissions. God bless PA. :beer:

It should be like $80. It used to be about 40 every time, but the new test on rollers costs more. Sometimes it's even more, like $100+

Look for something called the Penny Saver. Should have a couple ads in there for smogs in the 15-35 region (+8.25 for certificate)
