Wow! Great service from IBM.

I RMA'd my 45 Gb 75GXP, they shipped a replacement out 2 days after receipt. I got it today and it's a snazzy new 60 Gb 120GXP manufactured last month! Not too shabby. Now I just have to make sure I don't do any read/write operations that last longer than 333 hours 😉

Heh I dunno yet, I'm figuring out what I should do. I have another 75 GXP at home which I'm booting from. The "right" thing to do would be to install Windows on this new one and use the other for data, but I just upgraded my system a few days ago and things are finally tweaked to perfection. I'm pretty lazy so I'm not looking forward to doing that again.

That's partially why Symantec Ghost exists (Yes, it can clone your drive to a larger drive and resize the partition)

let me know what your benchmarks are like. i just received a 120gxp as a replacement drive and can't get near the benches i've seen in reviews.

Sure, which bench do you use?

BTW Cyber, Ghost has once again proved how awesome it is 🙂 I didn't know until tonight that you could ghost directly from drive to drive, I've only used it for cd backups. Whole thing took about 45 minutes and now my kickass new HD is a bit for bit duplicate of my old one. w00t!

I've always been impressed with Big Blue's customer service. I had an IBM Ultrastar 18ZX when IBM's new 10,020 RPM SCSI drives were the fastest, and I managed to corrupt the drive and basically ruin it. They replaced the drive quickly with no questions asked; the only company I can think of with better customer service is Wustoff Trident.

I got a replacement drive today from IBM. It's a 40 gig 60gxp. The label on antistatic bag has a date of FEB. 2002 on it. I thought people were getting refurbs, but I guess I got lucky. I had already replaced the hard drive so i'm gonna have to find it a new home.

Sorry, I don't share that opinion. They took eight weeks to replace my GXP75 last November.

I wonder if I should RMA the replacement drive they sent me (I'm not using it, because they sent ma a 75GB Refurb 75GXP) and see what I get...I'm not using it anymore anyway 🙂

A refurb has an orange sticker on the drive stating that it is a "serviceable used part"

I'm on my 4th week waiting for a 4gig SCSI drive replacement. thay have to ship it from China. Probably be another 4 weeks.

It's saved me a few times. Last time, my 60GB IBM 60GXP started "Intermittently failing" so I freaked out, borrowed my friend 60GB WD drive, and cloned to it. Cool thing was, his drive was slightly smaller than mine, but Ghost took care of that by resizing the free space so I still had a perfect clone. Cool...

Not to rain on your parade, but I thought the 120GXP only came in 40gb, 80gb, and 120gb versions. Did not know they made a 60gb version as well. You might want to double check that, I think you got a 60GXP instead of a 120GXP.

Isn't the forum great? You just learned something new 🙂 It's actually available in 20 gb increments from 40 gb total on up to 120.

well not good news here. I just recently got back my 45gb 75gxp that I RMA'd a while back and they sent a used part. Well it only took 1 day to completely fail on me. So it's in the mail on the way back to RMA land. Hopefully this time i will get a new 120gxp.

just ask for an upgrade. i went to the ibm site, found someone to email and told them i wanted an upgrade. they handled it for me. it was pretty smooth. i just got a 120GXP 20gb replace my 13gig which replaced my 10gig which replaced my previous 10 gig. 🙂

Derango, appreciate the info. Wasn't quite sure what i had gotten. Since I'm not keeping drive, i didn't want to open antistatic bag. Thanks
