Kids grow like weeds dude. And keep in mind that factors in the yearly doctor's visits for injuries/illnesses that are bound to occur.
I find this case in ways similar to the case in Washington (
I think it was Washington) over a state ban on selling M-rated video games to kids 17 and under. While the direct outcome of the case -- enforcing the ban -- wasn't particularly unexpected, the reasoning behind it was. The judge in the case went to the point of saying that video games are not a form of communication and do not deserve First Amendment protections. Obviously, that was bulls%$#, and had that ruling stayed in place the video game industry could have died then and there. Fortunately the case was overturned when it was appealed to a higher court.
I'm hoping that this too is overturned, or at least the part about "moral interest". The man was indeed a dumbass for not getting this in writing, but the court acknowledged that there was a verbal agreement with terms similar to what you would find at a sperm bank
and completely ignored it. It's not so much that this case may make donating sperm a huge risk as how it will apparantly put anyone who has
ever donated sperm at risk of being forced to pay child support. It's the equivalent of illegalizing the purchase of firearms and then making it retroactive going back 50 years. Ignorance of the law is no excuse; ignorance of a future law or application of the law
is.
Sorry for bumping the thread; I hadn't read this story until this morning and I had to comment.
