My street!

I thought it would have been impossible to flood my street. The water on the street is about 8-10 inches high, its covering some of my lawn. I live right next to a (artifical) lake, which is connected to other lakes via tunnels/sewers. The water from the street gets into the lake via a sewer. These lakes are fairly large. If you tried to walk around just the lake surrounding by my house (not the ones its connected to), it would take about an hour and a half. These lakes are about 3-4 feet higher than they usually are.

Wow, this is crazy, i can't go anywhere! Meanwhile, if Ivan does come and hits us, we'll be flooded for sure.
 
I swear it would be so much fun to have a jetski for that stuff.... when Isabel came to PA last year, I went to go rent one, but alas, someone beat me to it... I was soooolooking foward to jetsking around my college town on the flooded streets....

Sounds like you need a Jeep Wrangler w/ a couple inches lift and some 35"s =)

where in PA did it rain that much? cause we just got lots of wind and some raing in Carlisle, no fludding
 
Actaeon, putting tape on your windows does nothing except prevent whatever glass is behind the tape not to fly into your house, it'll fly all as one piece, and its a bitch to clean up.
re: the ghetto comment, might be saying that because of the pink house next door, similar color is often used in low cost housing and/or government neighborhoods.

Agreed, our neighborhood association would have struck down that pink house
 
Regarding the tape: Ask my mother. I don't know why she put it up, but she did. Trust me, I do not believe tape would stop a 2x4 from flying into my house, but I think it'll help keep the glass from shattering all over the place (think safety class in a car) into dangerous shards. That was most likely her intentions, but its her house, and if she wants to put her time and energy into putting tape on the windows, for whatever reason, its her business.

The "Flood": Wow, it was kinda neat driving my little Saturn through there, alot of places in the city (Kissimmee, FL) are flooded as well, lots of streets closed. I saw some news reporters filming around the flooded areas too. The water has actually risen over the past couple of hours... not sure why, as there has been no rain.

The ghettoness: I somewhat agree. The area is cheap, full of neglected houses. I believe my house looks better than most houses in the area. Only a few people care, and there is no "neighborhood association", so its really up to the individual homeowners to make sure there house appears nice. There are plenty of those ugly pink and green houses, and I agree, it makes the place look like crap, but there is nothing I can do about it. As long as my home looks nice (which i think it does), I'm ok. The houses/neighbor hood are about 20-25 years old now, so that might play a factor in how "new" (or old) the community looks. We don't make enough money to just move into another nicer (and more expensive) community, but I'm happy to say we own a house (many people can't, prices around here have skyrocketed), and I don't live in a trailer park.

The Tree: Not sure if anyone noticed, but that tree got owned pretty good. The leaves were not ripped from the branches, they were shredded apart. Kinda neat.
