Eesh.. what a doozy.

He is a fireman in Union, NJ which for people who don't know the area is the city next to Newark, NJ, which is not a nice place.

Apparently a woman locked her child in the back seat of a car and then couldnt get back in. The FD was called to get the baby out.

Apparently, not joking, the woman did not know she could use the key to unlock her Lexus. She was crying and such because the batteries had run out on her keyless entry thing and she couldnt unlock the car.

The firemen asked her if she had tried to use the key on her keychain to unlock the car and she responded by saying she didn't even know the key could unlock the car.

Well, they used the key, unlocked the door, and all was happy.

I hope they stamped "TARD" on her forehead before leaving the scene.

My paramedic buddies always telling me about the silly things they get called for... like people with minor scrapes and cuts you would normally use hydrogen peroxide and a bandaid for.

Sad.

Just sad.

I fear for that babies future growing up with a mom like that.

Tell your uncle thanks for his duties for me. 🙂

You guys are forgetting that some cars don't have keys per se. Mine for example, you have to push a button (which is not so visible, btw) to get the mechanical key out. Unless the salesman showed it to me I don't think I'd have found it easily.

My health teacher was an EMS. He told us they got a call and this this woman with a suitcase standing infront of the house. She told them the doctor said to check in the hospital, so she dialed 911. She even insisted they get a wheel chair for her. They told her either walk or we're leaving.

What a waste...

Man I sure hoped they gave her a bill for this 'emergency' response call.

Yeah, it is.... it's even worse when you realize that half of the people are below average! (assuming normal distribution of intelligence)

FIrst off, she obviously drove the car, which means, even if she did have one of those flip-out keys, she had to know where it was. The only resonable explanation I can see is if Lexus has devices like the new Mercedes. The key and keyless entry system are one piece, but you never really 'see' the key. When you go to start the car, you stick one end of the keyless entry thing into the ignition and the key is magnetically drawn out. There is a way to get the key out manually, but, for someone not mechanically inclined, it would be difficult to figure out.

Even supposing that she couldn't have unlocked the car (pretend she locked the key in the car), why call the fire department? If she wants to save the windows, she should call a locksmith, or AAA. All the fire department would do is break the window and open the door. She could have picked up a rock and done that herself.

Exactly what I meant about the keyless entry system. I never get my mechanical key out, even when I drive.

I dunno, she probably freaked out becuase her kid was in the car, i dont think i would call a locksmith and wait on them to show up. However makes you wonder if she ever drove anything less than a lexus. It would only be logical to try the key in that case before calling the FD.

I saw our FD come out and get a kid out of a car in walmart once. The guy walked up and just kicked the door square in the middle and it popped open. Said that particular line used faulty latches that would open on impact (not good if you get hit in the side). Made me think twice about leaving expensive things locked in my car.

I can blame the woman for being a knuclehead and not thinking about using the key while she waited.

The bigger question is WHY DID YOU LOCK YOUR KID IN THE CAR!!!! what a bad idea.

At least around here, the Fire Departments have slim jims.

Something so wrong in this world that somebody of such exceptional stupidity has somehow made it so that they are able to drive a Lexus.

I'm more concerned about the fact that she reproduced than anything else.
