inststalled without a key on a spare system. I tried my old key from Vista RC1 and it was not valid.

took 26 min to install on a s939 3800x2 system with 4gb of ram. I did a clean install on a 40 gb drive.
Used 13.1 gb for the default install....WOW

4.9 Windows experince rating. seems to run OK.

just looking around and making some initial settings, looks a lot like Vista, but a bunch of new/diff stuff as well

I just connected to Window Update, got 2 driver updates.
nvidia network driver, and for ATI video card

just got connected to updates, downloaded driver for video and sound. no driver availiable so far for Intel PRO wireless 802.11b/g. using a usb wireless adapter, windows loaded driver for this.
everything seems to work on an old laptop with pentium m 740 with 1gb.

I just got my Key! I went back to the page that was stating Error, and kept refreshing. Wouldn't go in full screen mode but in minimized, ie smaller screen it popped in. You Must be logged in/signed in to Microsoft live/whatever first tho.

are these like the Vista beta keys, good to install on up to 10 computers, or limited to a single machine ?

I have not installed yet, been nuts around here. I'll check it out this weekend. Just glad i got a key and don't have to hang around checking threads to see if its working yet.

BTW there is no e-mail program installed with this beta, I guess they want you to set up and use Windows Live mail.

I am on the site, and am downloading from the neowin link...where do you sign in to get the key?

I do not see it on the site?

It is here, but is down at the moment.

Public Beta of Win 7

The site Microsoft is supposed to announce the availability of the beta is here.

Windows 7 Page

Microsoft was hammered so be a little patient and hopefully they will get it all up soon.

I can't get it to complete. It'll dl anywhere from 300 to just over 400 MB then stop as if were complete. I tried w/ FireFox, IE7, and FlashGet.

Wow. This is quite possibly the most frustrating Beta launch I've ever participated in. I started trying to get a key around Noon Eastern. Clicked on the Technet Windows 7 DL and after constant 'Server too busy', finally got a 'check your e-mail to confirm' message about three hours and several hundred refreshes later. After constant 'Error, try back next business day' messages, finally got my x64 key around 8:00PM Eastern - 6 hours and eleventybillion refreshes later.

Despite all that, IT WAS WORTH IT. I can't believe how smooth this runs on my over 4 year old rig (Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, Opty 170 OC'd to 2.8GHz, 2GB OCZ DDR RAM, 74GB Raptor, 2x6600GTs SLI'd). I'm not sure if SLI is working because I haven't tried gaming yet; it never worked for me under the Vista Beta a couple years ago. I can't wait for the final release!

To get the Xfi drivers to work, you first need the vista ones, either 32 bit or 64 bit which ever OS your using. Then right click on the setup file and run in compatibility mode and choose vista. Then they will install just fine...
