Looks like the CD key pages are dead in the water now. It automatically jumps to Live Search now and doesnt even try to load the page.

I think they've taken it off-line until they get the key distribution issue worked out.

Looks that way. Guess I'll get the 64bit key later. I have about 900MB left on the x86 download then I am going to check it out.

Do you guys have any idea as to how the 32-bit and 64-bit versions compare? Will the 32-bit version be more stable with less bugs and a lower memory footprint?

After you install Windows 7, Windows Update will automatically recognize your nVidia graphics card and offer the beta drivers to you. At least it did for me with my 8800 GTS.

I have no idea..but I bought another 4Gb of RAM for $9.99 AR, so I'm going for 64bit just so I can have 8Gb usable RAM..for no good reason, really. 😛

Hehe well my Win7 beta x86 version on my nforce 2 board with only 1GB seems fine for general use,not tried any gaming yet however.

OK, I too got suckered into this, so I'm downloading the 32 bit version for my old laptop.

🙂

Would someone please post the key link when and if they find it?

Thanks,
Robert

I recall seeing it posted that your Vista RC1 key will work with this, haven't tried it but may be an option till you can get a new key for this beta.

NE1 use a Vista beta key on Win7 ? ?

Ok got windows 7 installed. Seems pretty cool. I can tell right off the bat its quicker than vista was that's for sure. But how do you change the start menu to the classic start menu? I hate the new one

You guys can install Windows 7 right now without a key. You'll have 30 days to input a key so you can use it for now and then when the hype dies down you can go back for your key and then input the key later.

But isn't there a good chance that all the keys will be taken by then?

By the end of 30 days? Possibly. But 2.5M keys will probably last a decent amount of time, so once the beta comes back online just start plugging away at the site and get your key. If you dont get one, you should be able to reset the timer and get 120 days of use out of it anyway.

I feel like I already missed the boat, this was just posted

"Thanks for your interest in the Windows 7 Beta. The volume has been phenomenal?we're in the process of adding more servers to handle the demand. We're sorry for the delay and we'll re-post the Beta as soon as we can ensure a quality download experience."

it means that 2.5mil keys were not distributed, and that there will be another 'round' in a few hours

also it means that Europeans will not get it as it will be past bed time there 😀

Yay! Got my Beta key (after 7 hours of refreshing the page). Now I have to wait until I get home to DL the file. I'm pretty sure I would detonate the crappy DSL modem here at work (small law firm).

7000

I need a key too. Hopefully most people do. I just burned it, now to see if it works.

Tried to upgrade from XP, no go. Have to upgrade from Vista or do a fresh install, doing a fresh install on an old hard drive.
