Will 7 require 64-bit hardware or will it install on a 32-bit machine also?

Word on the street is that the hardware requirements are at the low end of what Vista was at and that it's much less of a resource hog than Vista. Sounds like MS realized with the XP fiasco that there are plenty of machines still out there that are in need of a supported OS that doesn't require brand new hardware. So they aren't going to force 64 bit editions or anything like that.

The irony is that Vista even runs like **** on a 4 core 3.5Ghz PC w/ 4GB ram.

Vista: DIE !!!! DIE!!!!!!! DIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Cant wait to get rid of it.

sounds like you are suffering from massive PEBKAC

I'm testing Win7 on one of my old PCs (had XP) basically has 1GB,ATI 9700 card,1700+ AMD CPU,nForce 2 board(I did say it was old 😉 ).

Its quite smooth, the sound works however not tried any gaming yet,I'm hoping I can fix the issue of not having 1680x1050 native res settings option.

Basically it seems to me like Vista with a few things moved around/change and some stuff added.

I don't know if I' going to upgrade my Vista PCs to Win7(seems minor upgrade)however any XP user will probably like Win7 and will be worth it IMHO once it goes retail down the road.
I like to meantion UAC in Win7,to be honest its about the same as Vista,ie same amount of prompts (I did install most of the same software as my Vista PCs) however UAC was never an issue for me.

The only thing I can see Win7 having the edge in Vista is old hardware(low spec PCs) ironically Vista is like 2 years old now so even new Vista hardware at the time is now getting old (and even older by the time Win7 is released),basically ancient PCs will be where Win7 will have the edge.

It is available now, but it is almost impossible to get the 64 bit version due to connection errors, so I settled for the 32 bit version.

Public Windows 7 Downloads Both 32 and 64 Bit

Edit: These links lead you to a page to enter your name and email. Microsoft sends a verification email to you and then will send you to a page to complete the rest of the transaction. The first verification has failed due to server issues so this may be a lengthy process.

Edit: Verification has failed 6 times in a row due to server problems. You might want to wait an hour or so before trying.

"Server is too busy" 🙂

Yes, you can get it that way, but you will not get an activation key. Remember people, it is a direct violation of the EULA to obtain the beta any where else but Microsoft.

Edit: I will keep trying and will let you know when things have improved.

a) no

b) Is that phrase BS since no user is located BETWEEN keyboard and PC...except if you're "weird" and use your keyboard on your back.

Keyboard and chair ??? The 'C' isn't for computer in this case.

Still no download, so I'm glad I didn't miss it yet.

I hope they don't run out before I can snag the beta.

Nobody can connect, so I don't think you are in danger of that yet.

The site has been loading fine for me for the past 2 hours. Still no download setup yet.

Go back a page and follow my link. The download set up is up and running, just not posted on the Win 7 site yet.

Edit: The connection problems come when trying to verify your email for a product key and access to the download itself. I will let everyone know when I get through.

so you can sign up now and download it later to save your spot?

I'm at work and can't download until I get home.

I'm not certain if it works that way. Get the email for verification and send the link to a friend or family member to download for you if need be.

Ahhh I missed your post. Ok, on it now. Wierd... I figured it would be at TN, and have been refreshing it all morning, but haven't seen the link on the main page.

Edit: Boooo! After email verification I get this:
Error
The site is currently experiencing technical difficulties, please check back in the next business day.

I have super secret access to these things.

j/k

I got the link from tweakguides.com. I check that site at least twice a day because Koroush is very good about posting software update links for a lot of software and drivers I use. This along with secuina psi is a excellent way to keep all my software up to date.

Thank you for the link!!!
