daaang... i just cleaned out all the dust on my SK6. It didn't seem like alot at first but when I put it in the water... BAM! SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH DUST. Now my CPU is running 2 degrees cooler than before. Gotta clean this more often.

it's been about a month or two... i just dumped it in a bucket of luke-warm water. took some paper towels and wiped it off underwater. cleaned the bottom off with acetone. all clean.

Interesting, does the water cause any type of corrosion or oxidation? Anyone else out there do this? I want to make sure that I don't kill my sweet SK6.

techweenie: doh, i shoulda asked that question before i did it but it was a spur of the moment thing for me. I dried it with a blow dryer... i was thinking about just hooking up my delta and using that but i decided not to =P

even with dustfilter--i still get dust build-up--just took longer -used to be 1 month--nowdays is 4 months 🙂

Dont Buy expensive filters. any basic filter from home depot will do the trick. and it will cost you much less. A friend of mine did it and he has been dust free for over a year !!!!!!!
Just cut it to fit your fan size

the best thing that i do to keep down dust is to regularly use canned air and give my beasts thorough cleanings about once a week with it. only takes ten minutes, but never have any temp or electrical problems. btw dust is the biggest killer or electronic equipment, so keep ure expensive home theater systems clean too!

ku,

Do you have any sort of pet (cat or dog). They wreak havoc on machines with moving parts.

My brother's PS2 ruined 3 of his 4 games because of dust buildup. I have to assume it is because of the dog he has: the service department pulled an incredible amount of junk out of his machine.

<< no pets here ^^... but a lot of dust for some reason,,, *cough* >>

I had quite a bit of dust until I got new carpet.

A good way to cut down on dust is put your PC on a wooden board - my fans seem to suck up a lot less dust from the board than they ever did when the machine was sitting on carpet!

Quit smoking
Vacuum more
Change those furnance filters

Those 3 will help with dust in the computer a lot - and benefit everything else in the house, including you.

And yeah, canned air rocks. Sure, seems expensive, but beats the hell out of tearing down and cleaning fin by fin like I used to do. Blah to that.

Costco - 3 12oz. cans for 8-9 bucks.

I have 2 dogs, and they wreak havok on my PC.. I got dog hair everywhere, even in the stupid tape I use! Oh well.. my case is pretty clean on the inside.
