She didn't approve of them dating and thought it would 'publicly shame' the girl.

In defense of the parent, you just don't know. You see they are on the registry and you think the worse things in the world. People don't know what type of act they commited. I would have raised question to management as well. However, the manager indicated the background of this person after-the-fact. Even though his act was very minor, he's on the list and it's something he's going to have to live with for however long it stays there.

Hmmmm, I'm finding a lot more in Manassas than I did the last time I searched. 2 in my local neighborhood, one of which is a block from the elementary school.... WTF?

Theres a shit load of them around here. They got a much higher percentage of the population than any other town I've lived in.
Thats kinda scary. Then I remember theres assloads of criminals living here that never get convicted.

Uhh, 16 is the federal age for legal consent from a person without parental/guardian consent. Some states have tougher laws on top of that though. Most states do not do anything more than the federal law. Which means it is perfectly legal in most places in the USA for a 25 y/o to be with a 16 y/o. Also, if given parental consent, then even younger is legal. Some states are a bit weird though in their applications of the laws. Some try to be stricter but didn't do everything right. I remember reading a few years back an article about a 25 y/o marrying an 11 y/o in Kansas. All perfectly legal, so long as they remained in their house. If they left their house and the husband was with her then it was illegal or something like that. Was strange how it worked out. Think I'm going to try to find that article now.

There is no defense of the parent. The registries are bullshit, and I refuse to even look at them out of principle. They were made by weaselly politicians trying to gain reelection, and do absolutely no good for anyone. It' like the TSA circus where /looking/ like you're doing something is considered an acceptable facsimile of actually doing something.
 
I created a thread recently about discovering a best friend in elementary school being on the sex offender registry. Oddly enough he's been removed since then. 😵

I wonder what the rules are for getting removed. I can't see someone doing something when their young and being branded for the rest of their lives.

He was ~18-20 when he was put onto the website, and it was for possession of materials showing a minor in sexual conduct. Probably one of those 18 year old dude w/ nekkid pix of his 17 year old girlfriend things. If that was the case, it gives me hope that he could be expunged.

EDIT: I take it back, he's still there. I had troubles finding him a little while ago for some reason.

Yeah it was a train wreck as it then triggered DCS and a whole other drama.

Of course our local news made it the story of the week.

That was maybe 4-5 years ago, I imagine with all the crack down on child porn, she'd be in a whole other level of hell today.

The laws are fucked up...usually you make the list you stay on the list unless you know some important types.
