I did a spur-of-the-moment search for my best friend in high-school, and it turns out in 2001 he was arrested for "sexual contact with a person under 16" in Florida (he was 31 at the time).

The first 18 pages of Google hits on his name were covered with nothing but his mugshots, crime reports, arrest records. I can't see how this guy will ever get a job anywhere!

Back in high-school, he was a bit creepy because he was 17 and dating a 14 year old girl. He dated her until he was 19, and I know they were sexually active so I could see him doing something similar later in life.

Anyway, moral of the story: Screw around with jailbait and the Internet will pwn you.

Well, if you're 31 and you play with under-16s, I don't really have much sympathy for you.

Lolz. I was looking at Nebraska's sex offender database and found some familiar faces from high school on there. Pretty funny and not surprising at all given the individuals.

every state has a database for these things that employers and others will check. in NYC you will have trouble buying real estate with a criminal record

I've got a coworker who I discovered is on the sex offender registry. Fortunately for him he has a VERY common name so he's spared that level of Google notoriety.

Some of these sex offenders are lumped together with both major and minors. Example, when my wife and I went to a PTA event at a Chickfila resturant, one of the parents noticed an employee there who he recognized on the sex offender registry. Evidently they guy is now working in Chickfila. The parent made a big fuss about it (because this resturant had a playground and children came there everyday). He talked to the manager. Then he went home and sent an email to the corporate office. Eventually he got fired, but the resturant manager indicated that he was a marine in Iraq. He had was on the internet in Iraq looking at porn, didn't realize they were minors, and got into a shitload of trouble for it. Ever since he's been having a hard time finding a job and Chickfila took him in.

what would you do if someone with the exact same name as you ends up on such a database?

There are probably hundreds of people on these lists who were either falsely accused or didn't have the resources to properly defend themselves after being charged for a minor infraction. Maybe there is a teacher who patted a girl on the back and was charged with fondling a minor.

What a stupid asshole. I hope that guys life ends in misery after a long downward spiral. Do some fucking research, idiot.

Can you still get branded as a sex offender for doing stupid minor stuff like urinating in public?

In some states yes. Sex offender registries have turned out to be pretty bad ideas but nobody has the guts to say so.

I think the sex offender registry should only include people who commit heinous crimes of sexual offence (rape, child pron, 25 year old with a 16 year old, etc.) things like urinating in public when you are 17 should not count unless you are urinating ON a child or some kinky shit like that.

So you're saying you're into urinating on children, then?
