I find that users are deathly afraid of "messing up" their computers.

Which is funny because they find the most weird ways to do so, while trying not to.

Some people are simply not meant to use computers though. They should work in construction or something... no wait, I don't want to drive on bridges built by these people.

Maybe they should just stay in school forever or something.
I could correlate your poor grasp of English grammar with a lack of intelligence just like you seem to do with computer illiteracy.

English is not my first language. Live with it.
Sorry, that's not a valid excuse. Live with it.

Fine, if it really bothers you that much, maybe teach me what I did wrong, and I will make extra sure to be perfect just like you are.

I'm only hounding you because you seem to think people who don't know how to use a computer are stupid. I merely made an equally ridiculous leap in an attempt to point this out to you.

A user brings a PC at my house because she wants to use it for her kids and does not know the password. I procrastinated all week because I just did not feel like doing it.

Finally today I decide to boot it up. It's one of those old compaq presarios that is basically an emachine with the huge chunk of plastic on the front. Inside this are a few CDs and lo and behold, a recovery CD. I pop it in but it did not work, it just told me my PC would reboot, and that I had to remove the CD.

So before going through the trouble of a normal reinstall (finding drivers for those is pure hell) I decide to try a few passwords. 3rd try, I'm in. Do users even TRY!?! The password was, password. Like seriously. You'd think the user could of tried this before getting me involved.
Easy money, you shouldn't be complaining. ;)
Yup.

I'm pretty tech-oriented, but if I'm in an office, and someone asks me to fix the copier, I will still go to IT for that exact reason. Rather look retarded than break something. Give me the manual, I'll take the thing apart for you.

OP is epic tech lord, do not besmirch his reformat first, ask questions later policy. lol.

Seriously though, I usually reformat because the PC is probably stolen and at least the former owner's data won't be readily exposed.

Someone didn't bother reading my carefully prepared memo on commonly-used passwords. Now, then, as I so meticulously pointed out, the four most-used passwords are: love, sex, secret, and...god. So, would your holiness care to change her password?

When saying any line from Hackers you need to post Angelina Jolie boobies from that movie. :|

Hackers??? Sorry, never seen the movie.

one of my most favorite movies from my high school years.

If that's XP, I find that 95% of home users never make an administrator password. When someone asks in a case like this, I boot to safe mode, click on 'administrator', and change the password there.

I nuked a badly infected computer for the son of a guy I work with. I set up passwords for it to his specification and limited users for him his kids. He picked the passwords.
I finished it up and updated it, installed the usual stuff like adobe reader, etc. Taped the note with user and password info to it and sent it back. I'd never see it again, right?
8 months later it is back, looking a little dusty. Apparently they had to get a new computer while I had that one, and never hooked it back up. And lost the notes with password info. And forgot the password that he had specified.
