Wow, didn't remember ram ever being this cheap

Ever since I've been using my laptop 2-3yrs ago I've never been on the up and up with video card, cpu, memory prices. Wow, did memory prices ever hit rock bottom or what? Bought 1GB of crucial ram for my X41 for less than $40.

Didn't even think about that one before I hit submit. 🙂

I recommended that people wait back in December 2006, and wow, the prices really dropped. Good for those with tight budgets.

yah, I just upgraded mostly b/c amd is slashing x2's and ram is so cheap :0.

2gig 800mhz ddr2 for 86 shipped...probably could've found cheaper, but no rebates or anything is nice.

Well, all it takes is one earthquake in Asia and the prices will skyrocket. 🙂 But yes, ram is very cheap right now. I am going to overhaul my system at the end of the summer but I am thinking of buying ram now because its cheap. I am hesitant because I have no way to test DDR2/3 ram right now.

This thread made me go look at the prices for laptop memory with an idea of maybe switching out my laptop's memory (2x512) for some more (2x1024), but the price on DDR SODIMMs is still kind of high 😱. It's $80 for a 1GB stick of DDR333 where a 1GB stick of DDR2 667 is only $40.

Maybe I'll just sell the laptop and buy a new one.

Yeah I was actually considering picking up 2 more GB of my RAM since it is so cheap.

However I am still unsure about the whole 4GB/WinXP-32bit thing and how it works, so still debating...

I've been tempted to jump up too and even though I'm running Vista 32-bit, having 3.2GB (or whatever the limit is, I can't remember off the top of my head) is still better than 2GB. Also, if I ever end up upgrading, I will have that available.

I remember paying over $250 for my current ram... now I can get it for half that 🙁. Maybe I should just drop my 4-4-4-15 ram and buy some faster 3-3-3-x DDR2-800? I wonder what would benefit me more... more ram (since I use Vista, a little extra never hurts for superfetch) or a bit faster speeds... I guess it all depends on how memory intensive my games are!

I hear ya! I payed over double for my RAM as well. 🙁

Anyway, I think I may just go ahead, because as you said, even 3.2GB is better than 2GB and I know LOTRO (my game of choice currently) is pretty RAM hungry, plus I'll be ready for Vista once I upgrade (hello Superfetch!)

Although I'm trying to cut down on my spending... I think my PC will see two upgrades in the near future:

2GB more RAM and a quad-core come July.

Oh man, I looked at the old invoice and found my ram... it's actually more like 1/3 the price after rebate now 🙁.

I paid $265 for it only about 6-7 months ago.
