Question for glen: Isn't there crosstalk in the recording so why is the lack of extra crosstalk during playback a limiting factor?

In a lot of recordings there is very limited crosstalk. For instance in bands, instruments are individually mic'ed or go directly into a sound board. They will sometimes have mics setup to catch the general sound in the room, but that is typically only seen when recording in concert halls. All the "crosstalk" happens at the mixing level when the audio technician/engineer mixes the sounds together to lay down the track.

Ah that could explain why I particularly enjoy listening to live music with my earphones.

Not the poster, but I have a pair of open back headphones (Sennheiser 600 - my limited understanding is that open headphones generally produce better sound) and I love them. $300 and the sound is vastly better than any $300 I could spend on a pair of speakers. I guess that's the benefit of a small package. Even through lowgrade onboard sound I hear things I had never heard before and love recordings are best of all.

My first pair of iems was the Shure e2c. Now i only use these type of headphones! The sound quality that you can get at the low price ranges is pretty amazing. The nuforce 700 are amazing at their price point.
