This is insane and I would think this was a hoax if not on aclu's site

Sadly, we're not all that far away from this here and that's what we know about. When we take into account the things that folks like Edward Snowden say about our secret spying how much can we gloat about how much better we are. Even more painful is the fact that a crap ton of Americans, like many of the Chinese, appear to be OK with this.

Every time I start to think China is finally getting its shit together I hear about some black toxic lake right next to a city of two million, strong-arming Hong Kong's politics, or this. They're like North Korea with money.

Wow, that is quite literally Orwellian.
Yeah.

Brb, gonna go check out Facebook and use Google a bit.
Oh look! A link to a website hosted on an Amazon Web Services server! I'll just have a look over this Internet connection owned by a company that willingly volunteers data to the government.

Sadly, many Chinese appear to be embracing the score as a measure of social worth, with almost 100,000 people bragging about their scores on the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.
Like® this post to increase an arbitrary number attached to my name. I like big numbers.

Man, the 21st century sucks. It's like the 90's were the peak of freedom and everything after that as been an erosion since.

Only thing left after this is that episode of Voyager where healthcare and medication is rationed aside only for citizens with a high enough score. :hmm:

Snowden proved the conspiracy theorists were correct. Most people don't care though as they delude themselves into thinking they've got nothing to hide. Yet we now live in an age where you can get fired for stuff posted on social media outside company time. Or where companies peruse the online profiles of potential employees. Politics is going to get real interesting in the big data era.

Stop posting on Facebook maybe?
Stop buying your dildos from amazon and do it how we always did it: the trailer sitting just outside of town, two blocks off the old US route run by the creepy old dude with the jerk-off booths in the back.

There's a start.

Except even he's running a high-end PC trying to mine his customer database for any trends that might increase revenue. The heavy processing is done off-site, courtesy of AWS.

And the servers at UPS don't know what he buys from his suppliers, but he sure seems to receive a lot of boxes from Dick Jiggler's Hefty Pounders, LLC. But that's ok, that's just metadata, it's not as though they could make any assumptions based on that information.

I bet something similar is already going on in the US. Everyone is probably assigned a "risk assessment" score based on your contacts, what you post online, books read, purchased items, employment history, etc. What do you think that giant data center in the middle of the Utah desert is for?

But I count on the community feedback & reviews to guide my purchases!

I am guessing it would be like a credit rating where if you don't have one you won't be able to do some things thus those that don't use the social networks there will have issues.
