Art has no bearing on age, IMHO.

When I say it's poor applications, it's not because she's paining religious figures, it's because her subjects are uninteresting and not captivating. I see a horse running through a forest and I think of the cover of some cheezy adventure novel.

Just because she is 10, doesn't mean she can't have more interesting subjects. I'm a graphic designer and I'm trained to not be persuaded by "pretty pictures" alone. Sorry if that's not the way you think.

Every year around here there is an art competition for the local grade schools, and they are displayed in the mall.

The girl has talent, but she's no phenom.

What're you talking about? The only true indicator of art quality is its ability to sell. Only bad art is free and only bad artists need government funding. Good art will always sell.

I agree. But the main reason her art is selling is because of her age. Granted she's got a gift...i mean to paint like that at such a young age is amazing. But thats exactly the point...her age. You think her art would be selling as well as it is (I assume it is) if she was 10 or 15 years older?

She's very good, I'll give her that. But Im not fond of her religious theme in all of her paintings.

She is ofcorse very young so she definetly has lots of time to develop. She has the technical aspect but lacks the artistic one.

I find her earlier drawings and paintings more interesting than the later ones. It's as if, when her parents realized she had talent beyond her years, they decided to hire someone who can paint the poker playing dogs on velvet to tutor her. I hope she gets beyond that.

About as good as I was at that age.. let's see if she doesn't get burnt out like I did too. There becomes a point where you just run out of ideas and it always feels like someone is expecting more and more out of you, without actually saying so.

She's got talent, many people do. What she's done is fairly impressive considering I rarely saw another kid I thought was as good as me.... until I got invited with the winners over the years to the National Scholastic Art event. Then I started noticing... too many kids are actually good at art in different ways. She's good a painting big pictures. I'd like to see her chisel a marble slab into something Or weld some metal. Fine detail work is done every day by people with skills. Then they get hired out for $10 an hour to an advertising firm, or even less for other places.

Then again, the difference between a good artist, and a "great" one is usually not what you can do but who you know. She's got talent and someone to promote her talent. Her agent is damn good too! Cause for every 1 kid thatgets shown on Opera with talent like that 10 more are easily just tyring to make it to the end f the day and using their talents to pass the time.

yip, i bet the religion haters in here would never step a foot in the Louve (sp). that place is filled with masterpieces and most of them are of religious nature.

Age has nothing to do with it. She just has better fine motor skills, probably better eye sight then average, and that's really all you need besides confidence. Confidence is key to convince yourself you are beyond drawing stick figures and cutting hearts out of paper plates, and making people chains by folding up paper and cutting them out. I guess if I hadn't seen it before, or hadn't actually been like her at that age I would be impressed. But really, it's not THAT uncommon for art. I had pictures hanging in the Smithsonian when I was 8 from winning an art contest. I did a 4 foot by 6 foot picture of all stiple dots so close together that you had to be closer then 4 feet away to it to realize it was all dots. It was a picture of my little brother walking besides a duck/swan pond we had by our house in Holland. All I used was a regular ink pen. It took me 8 months to do but it really wasn't all that hard. Heck, I got to the point I could watch TV and let my hand do everything with me only having to glance over at the picture to reposition my hand for a new section.

I duno, maybe Im bitter because while I was good, I never did much with it. Didn't really know how nor did I care to "market" my skills when I was 8 years old. I did it because I thought it was fun and something to do. chances are, I'd probably never have entered an art contest at all if my parents hadn't submitted my art in.

The problem with Art is that there is no age boundaries. If you guys here saw half the crap I'd seen while growing up then you wouldn't be as impressed. I only wish there was an internet when I was her age Might have made money... naw.

she is very talented. purely from the artistic view... she can paint very well. her colors are nice, they blend well, the shawdows and lights are perfect. she is talented.
