wow cable news sucks

I've had nothing better to do so i turned to cnn headline news, and there is this glen beck idiot ranting and raving like a moron. I was watching earlier and it was just as bad. Am i thie only person who thinks ths has gone downhill, am I just watching bad shows, or is it that this is the first time I have noticed this.

Haha, same situation here. I just watched CNN for the first time in six years yesterday, and it was the dumbest trash I ever saw - and I thought P&N was horrific in its tendency to dumb things down too much.

I forget who the guy I was watching was talking about, but following him was some overly opinionated blonde chick who kept calling the Jon Benet suspect an "ugly pervert" - of all the things to talk about on national TV, you're criticizing the guy's looks? Can you be any more irrelevant? Jesus.

I think the "need" to fill 24 hours worth of news has a lot to do about the quality of news reporting.

I also think you can blame the hostile state of politics on this as well. The fact that yelling and screaming (Fox, MSNBC etc) gets better ratings than thoughtful and quiet discussion (PBS) causes the networks to "play" up the disagreements.

Despite this the news we get today is at least more balanced than when the networks and the New York Times decied what was reported and how.

He does look like the g-man from halflife. Link

There was a comic in my local paper that expressed what its like very well, by David Horsey of the Seatle Post-Intelligencer, but it doesn't seem to be online yet. 😱

yeah it's all pretty dumb, it's hard to stay informed these days about anything that matters, but if you are obsessed with car chases, or jon bennet then it's your cup o tea.

The concept they have of brief "discussions" among talking heads on opposing sides of a given issue has lowered the overall quality of the programming. I think I also recall seeing another "news" program where they were broadcasting in front of an audience, which I thought was ridiculous for a news program.

Think it is bad now, just wait a couple more weeks for the Election brainwashing.

It's actually starting already:

9-4-2006 Republican ads show distance from Bush

Republicans who were once cozy with President Bush are distancing themselves from both the president and their party in campaign ads.

Consider Republican Deborah Pryce, the fourth-ranking House Republican struggling to hold onto her seat in an evenly split district in central Ohio, near Columbus.

In 2004, her campaign Web site featured a banner of her and Bush sitting together, smiling.

But in her latest television ad, Pryce is described as "independent."

The spot also highlights how she "stood up to her own party" and the president to support increased federal funds for embryonic stem-cell research.

Among some of the ads:

_In Pennsylvania, Republican Rep. Jim Gerlach (news, bio, voting record) tells voters: "When I believe President Bush is right, I'm behind him. But when I think he's wrong, I let him know that, too," Gerlach is in a close contest with Democrat Lois Murphy, who nearly beat him in 2004.

_In Minnesota, where an open Senate seat is at stake, Republican Rep. Mark Kennedy (news, bio, voting record) has an ad titled, "Crossing Party Lines," in which he says: "I'm a Republican. On issues like taxes and spending, I vote like it. But on other issues, I cross party lines." In 2002, in his run for the House, a Kennedy ad showed him walking and shaking hands with Bush at the White House. Today, he lists the issues on which he has split from the president.

_In South Florida, heavily populated by retirees, Republican Rep. Clay Shaw criticizes the president's stalled plans to change Social Security and says in his ad, "I represent the state of Florida, not a political party."
================================================
We'll see how well the Republicans make out with the brainwashing this round.

HaHaHaHa. I'll bet they're all for term limits too. 😀

Anybody who's supported Bush is responsible for the mess he has gotten this country in and should be tossed to the curb!!

I can't stand to watch any cable news for more than a few minutes. I will be surfing the channels, flip past CNN Headline News and there's Nancy Grace obsessing about another dead or missing white girl.

Then there's CNN, that thinks every tropical storm is another disaster aiming for the United States. Finally, there's FOX News, that 's always beating the drums for some sort of revenge against Islamofascism.

Time to delete some of these channels from the remote.

It is pretty bad. I can't stand how they don't even try and get experts on shows. It's just whoever will come on. Fox did a thing on Katrina not to long ago and so they had a few "specialists." Guess who two of them were? Don King and Richard Simmons. Seriously, wtf?

The best was Larry King having Bill Nye the Science Guy on as a hurricane specialist (just before katrina hit last year). Bill provided the ultimate in Hurricane science. Larry asked what would happen if the levees failed. Bill replied "Well....it won't be good Larry....water ruins things".

Typically you will see Glen Beck boasting his political acumen by discussing the motivations of Al Qaida leadership with his guest...a columnist from Popular Mechanics.

That's on a good day.

No, we all know it's crap. We, however, are a very small minority, and being far from normal, don't statistically count to advertisers.

QFT

Unfortunately, brainless sheep are a FAR more desirable demographic to market to (and is it any wonder why?)

I do not watch tv for news. I don't even go to the newspapers for news, except for the New York Times. Get your info from online news organizations and variety of sources, like Firefox latest headlines etc. Getting your info from one source only gives you an idea from one side of the story and leaves much of the information out. I sometimes have to remind myself of this.

I agree cable news is usually complete crap. I do however enjoy watching a couple of shows, mostly Hardball on MSNBC. Also the resplendence to Katrina probably would've been much worse if it won't for cable constantly showing the devastation.

CNN has fallen a LONG way from what it used to be 5 years ago. I remember it being a worthwhile network that I turned to for news. Hasn't been that way in years--now it's just depressing in how god-awful it is.

Already done that...only one of the cable news nets I left was Headline News and I still zip past that.
