i saw newegg had an xp2500+ (barton) in the refurbished section for $54 shipped so i figured i would give it a try.... i wasnt expecting to much, i kinda thought it might have been returned since it was a poor overclocker or something

so to start off i set the fsb to 200mhz and the multiplier to 9x (1.8ghz. default vcore) just to make sure the cpu was ok and not damaged at all.

next i tried 200 x 10 (2ghz, default vcore) and ran prime95 while doing some other stuff for about an hr. when it didnt crash i upped the multiplier to 10.5x and then 11x

and now im at 11.5x and have been for the last hr or so while running prime95 and playing a couple games

im pretty happy with a sub $60 cpu that runs faster then the fastest athlonxp made (currently running 2.3ghz) all the while running default voltage and air cooling (with a low rpm quiet fan)

Excellent! I love hearing stuff like that, because I have a brand spankin' new 2500+ coming in from Newegg tomorrow and a pair of Mushkin Level 2 PC3500. If I can hit 3200+ levels with no overvolting then I will be quite happy with having saved a few hundred dollars off the price of a 3200+.
