WTF is up with people making mountains out of mole hills. For example, the Tropic Thunder thread and how it used the word "retarded." WTF?! It's a movie folks. So much concern about being politically correct and for what?

I would explain the position of people who think that way, but I bet you can figure it out on your own. To be honest I think everyone is overly thin skinned as well, but I also think everyone complains too much.

I remember when Mexicans were offended by the Taco Bell dog. I remember thinking WTF??? Are they serious? I mean, nobody would have thought that was offensive or even conceived of it as a racial insult. Only when a group of people with a low self image
identified with the character, then told everyone that they didn't like their own self-determined identification, did it did it become an issue.

The Democrats aren't offended because their symbol is a Jackass. Why? Because they don't see themselves as jackasses, so they don't internalize it.

The only time people are offended by something is when they fear that it is true. That is why you can call someone a three-eyed reptillian alien and they don't get mad, but call them a retard and suddenly they are ready to fight.

"a gunman with a black gun held up a man at the train station..."

(and the pic shows it was a black man, but they chose to describe the gun in detail rather than the man to stay PC)

This is not new at all. Remember when religious people hated alcohol so they had us ban it, not just with a law but an amendment.

Only difference now is with the internet, TV, etc? it does not take many people to complain to make it seem like a lot of people have a problem when it?s a small group. Like those nuts they are always complaining about TV content. Like 80-90% of all complaints to the FCC come from them.

Do you seriously not understand why people find this term degrading and insulting?

Do you really want to go through life being an insensitive jerk, and blaming everyone who takes umbrage with your assholery because you think they are too "thin skinned"?

WOW! Way to come out directly at me rather then my opinion. Highfive, champ! As for the movie and it's use of the word "retarded," do you think they were using it in malice to hurt the feelings of those that are disabled, or retarded? It's not me being insensitive, it's me being aware that it's a freaking movie trying to get some lowbrow laughs, nothing more. There are a lot more things going on in the world then movies using words like "retarded" - Get over it.

you got offended by their getting offended, so yes EVERYONE is that thin skinned. just chill out, and go on about your day.

I pretty much agree with this.

As much as I am anti-PC, I think "retard" is kind of derogatory toward mentally handicapped people. I don't mean anything against them when I say it but I'm so used it that I guess I don't really think twice about using it.

What do you expect retards to do? I look at it as pre-movie entertainment.

Hahah. Well as I said, I think it's kind of deragatory when it's said but I say it anyway cause it's a habit.

Wait, what? Mexicans have been portrayed negatively in the United States long before the Taco Bell dog came along. It wasn't Mexicans internalizing the connection, it was Mexicans and other concerned individuals fearing that Taco Bell patrons would internalize the connection.

Jesus, are you daft enough to honestly think that Mexicans see themselves as dogs?
