WOW - AMD APU integrated into a camera offering real time 2K video...

You know this is for industrial machine vision applications, right?

Not only can your friend probably not afford it, but you need a vision system to connect it to.

The camera itself shouldn't be that expensive but what is a VISION system? You mean the camera can't just record the videos in the internal memory and then you transfer it to the computer?

OP probably meant this?

According to SA, it can record @ 90FPS. Bit of an upgrade from the Atom model 😀

Do you really want to play Google games? In 60 seconds I'll find you a atom based camera - monochrome at that - that's $8K.

Pricing has nothing to do with the price of components. If a 15fps monochrome camera is $8K, you aren't going to price a 90fps color camera at $8,200 just because the components cost you a few bucks more.

I think a very similar model from the same company with a similar name (Currera-R vs Currera-G) is a much better basis for future price prediction than some speculative price from some unspecified manufacturer.

15fps Atom based Currera-R is 2.7K, not 8K, and the current most expensive model is 4K. The Brazos based one may indeed cost $10K, but that is one hell of a price hike as it seems that this 2K@90fps mainly comes from GPU acceleration. So I still fail to see where do you draw this confidence in minimum $10K price from.

Since when does something have to be affordable in order for us to discuss it? 😀

Or tell our friends about it? How would car magazines exist of that was the case... I agree that it is a cool piece of kit, and I even know people who might be interested in it.

Anyway, cool piece of kit that really showcases what AMD has been driving towards.

I spent a decade in Manufacturing IT...Plant floor systems to be specific. That's where I draw my confidence from.

However, you can still look at the Currera-R documentation, as the Currera-G is likely to have similar starter kits, API and vision libraries support and pricing. The Currera-R models (12 Models) are currently sold for between 1400 and 2200 Euros depending on the model and order quantity.

I think it will cost <$10K based on my googling skills, you think it's gonna be >=$10K based on your experience. I'm willing to make a bet. 🙂
