My prime membership ran out a couple months ago, and I have yet to see a reason to renew. I wanted to order a couple items on July 17th, but since I don't need them quickly I still did not sign up for prime and selected the normal free shipping method. Both items were in stock at the time and still show as in stock on their website, but they will not be shipped until the 24th. I understand that the shipping is free so I'm not expecting a super fast delivery, but a week just to begin shipping the items seems excessive.

Prime is how they pay for all that free shipping and other free stuff. I love Amazon and it's well worth the annual fee. I actually use it with the Amazon store card and get 5-10% back on monthly purchases.

That's how Amazon works. You pretty much have to predict what you're going to need and/or want 2 weeks from now and order today so you get it by then.

It actually is hit or miss. I just ordered a few items and did the free shipping and they actually shipped the next day. In the past I've had them hold things for a week as well. But yes, it does seem they are trying to force people into getting Prime. I simply do not use Amazon enough to justify it.

It's just like gym memberships and other monthly/annual fee based services, the point is to hook you on and sucker in people that don't even use it to the fullest extent.

I didn't need Prime when free shipping criteria was $25-$35. But it's gotten harder and harder to pile up $50 at one time. We buy $20 items every 2 weeks or so, by happenstance... I can't wait a month, or plan gifts a month ahead, nor would I want to. As I've mentioned in the past, I'm doing a BoA rewards card that gives me $100/year back (only have Netflix charged on it) so in a sense, Prime is free. ;)

I currently have Prime, ordered a couple of things on Prime Day, and they took almost a week to ship. I heard Amazon was busy!

Or you just buy prime. I got about 30 packages from Amazon this week - pretty sure delivery companies stopped by multiple times each day. Combination of next day/2 day shipping.

So much better than actually going to the store.

Anybody wanna predict how long it'll be before Amazon requires a paid Prime account just to shop there, period?

I don't pay to shop at stores. That shit's beyond retarded. Giving them money for the privilege of giving them money. Especially when the whole thing exists to make you more willing to give them money. They should pay me to have a Prime membership.

This is not new. They have been doing this for at least five year. They ship them from next door practically but they hold them back a week so they won't get to you in two days. I've only been a prime member one year but I have ordered at least a 6 things a year from Amazon every year since 2005.

As far as I am concerned, prior to 2010 I got free 2 day shipping on most items if the subtotal was $25.

More likely they raise the price of prime to $129.

If I were to have one shopping subscription (and I do), it would be to Costco. I find Amazon for want purchases rather than need purchases.
